I totally remember that: ABC, NBC, CBS
And....I was the remote.
Daddy in easy chair: "Flip it to channel eight." "Turn it up." "Turn it down a little."
Some of you people are really OLD.

When I was a kid, in addition to the big three networks, we also had a PBS channel (WHYY -- Channel 12) and three UHF channels on top of that! But TVs were still full of vaccuum tubes and the corner drug store had a tube-tester (and a selection of replacement tubes!)

Same here and if I did it to fast I would get yelled at....you gonna break the dial. Sometimes I felt like the Fonz when the tv got a little crazy....I would smack the top of it with my hand and everything worked just fine after that...heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy:lol::thumb:

And if the knob was missing / broken, a pair of pliers on top of the TV to change the channels. Or if you were lucky enough to have a slotted shaft often times it was just a butter knife. Yes, I remember!

Our first 'remote' was a home made box with a button that killed the sound during commercials. (Had a wire so was not a true remote) Mom was hard of hearing so kept it kind of loud. Even back in the 70s commercials were much louder than the programs.

Oh, a picture...
