because its got "hidden symbols" that add the equation up

So '3+6' = [3*6] + 3 = 21.

looking at it again, 8 + 11 = 40 could be also right. you just keep adding like its a calculator

4 + 1 = 5
5 + 5 + 2 = 12
12 + 6 + 3 = 21
21 + 11 + 8 = 40

thats how i saw it aswell. as if you entered it into a calculator and just added it all up. XD
