Dripping just means instead of popping a cart in you drip e-liquid directly into the atomiser :) I find that the 510 likes to have 2 to 3 drops and gives about an analogs worth of vaping before its time to drip again

Ohh yes and I have one gold 510 atomiser that tastes burnt, I did use carts for a few days tho!

I can't see the fibers they are too small so never did try picking them out hehe!

When that burnt taste and smell started bothering me last night--no kidding--I couldn't put a finger on it either. I changed the cartridge three times.

Finally I took a magnifying glass and a strong light, pulled the cartridge off, and looked down in the atomizer. I found a small 'tuff' of polyester (about the size of a grain of sand) down there---------that's what was doing it.

It had falled down from the tip of the dry cartridge...and was lurking around to cause me trouble.

I have heard some others complain of this also. I read here that some people think it is the fibers under the atty bridge. Some recommend removing them and others say that it will kill the atty. Just wanted to let you know what I heard.

In my experience pulling these fibers out kills the atty - did it 4 or 5 times, same result. I've been getting the burnt taste (turns cappucino into like a cigar wrapper flavor) with my JS, but if I do a dry burn (while blowing on the atty) and load up a fresh cart I'm all good. Not sure the cause in my case either.

I got a strange 2 piece, its an RN4081 and some green cartomisers! It works pretty good but could to with swapping for the KR808d or whatever its called hehe! Anyway, I agree! When it starts tasting burnt you just chuck the cart away and start with a new one! They are also easy enough to refill :)

My personal favourite is the penstyle but even it has the troubling burnt taste with carts :(

I get that taste when some of the fibers from the cart are sticking out and touching the atomizer or actually break off and get in there. First try to get them out with a tweezer, if you still taste it, run water over it and then blow it out (atomizer)...blow through both ends until no water comes out. Then start with fresh cartridge and drop a few drops onto the atoimizer. Make sure none of the cartridge stuffing is ever sticking out or dry.

Good idea! I am going to try and revive that gold attie, I have nothing to lose, have 1 spare gold and 5 spare blacks, I guess the black ones will look good on the gold battery!

I was like you until I switched from the 510 to my VaporKing (Kr808D) and it has been smooth sailing ever since. For ease of use and consistant good taste and throat hit, I don't think you can beat it. Vapor4Life - e-cigarette-forum.com • The place for electronic cigarette reviews, news and chat

There are other alternatives out there, (Mods might help) so don't give up! For me, the VK was it! I will never go back to analogs. So stick with it and find something that works for you. Good luck! ;)

The 510's I have used to have that burnt sort of "thing" going on, I removed he fibers from just under the bridge, and took the stylus from my PPC, made an indent in the bridge itself to push the mesh against the bridge itself, I haven't had that problem since.

I also took the bridge completely out on one of them, cut a small strip of the cartridge medium and placed it around the circumference of the heating element itself, so while dripping it will hold a couple more drops, and seems to keep it from flooding and draining out the vent holes.

Speaking of Mods, I too had trouble with the burnt taste. I'm using the Pyramid Tea Bad Mod now, and no more burnt taste. That cartridge stuffing has to go. Polyfil burns to quickly. The nylon from the tea bags withstands hotter temps, therefore less burning...especially with the 510's which like to run hot anyway.

This was my problem with a few 901 attyZ, but I never really got the taste out. I just bought some 510s.

(I just did the Straw mod, and I am a vape-monster today.)

For those of you who are reading this and get the idea to remove loose poly fibers from your atomizer.. please be careful!

The 510 has a fiberglass wick that runs from the atty bridge down to the coil. That wick is SUPPOSED TO BE THERE! Don't confuse it with any errant poly fibers from your cartridge. They look completely different.

If you pull out the atty wick you will dramatically change the vaping characteristics of your 510. It will still work fine for dripping.. but it will draw liquid from a cartridge differently.. and will usually not generate nearly as much vapor.

If you want to run an atty without a wick... you might as well just go with a 901 (which doesn't use the wick).

P.S. If you buy a 510 SLB "clone" atty you will notice that it doesn't have this wick.... it's a different beast and performs differently than the Joye 510 atty.

When you begin to taste the burnt stuff, your atty is too dry. Place a drop of juice on the bridge and it will go away. Also, if you haven't done the straw mod or ADM spring mod, you'll need to do this for even wicking action on the 510. I recommend the latter.

Also, please keep in mind that thick juices do not wick as well as thin ones. I mix my juices even thinner than Johnson Creek's.

Finally, to get that burnt taste out of the atty, soak it for an hour or two in rubbing alcohol, rinse well with water, blow it out and let it dry. The burnt taste will be gone.
