Maybe it's just old wives tales, but I've always heard people who quit smoking sometimes put on weight, so likely nothing to do with vaping, just with quitting smoking. I think the explanation I was given was that, with quitting, your taste buds "come back to life" and people simply eat more of the things they are liking... Again, totally hearsay...

Andrea, don't panic. It is the winter. Humans naturally bulk up for the winter. Also it is cold out. We are less active during the fall/winter months. We often eat too much food and sweet snacks this time of year etc. I doubt it has anything to do with vaping.

Just drink lots of fluids, make sure you take the proper amts of vitamins and excercise more in the winter months.
If you drink soda/coffee/tea make sure you drink an extra glass of water for every one you consume.

You quit smoking 7 months ago. With vaping (Unless you vape 0 nic) You are still using nicotine.
The stimulant in the ciggerette is the same as in the vape.

Get your thyroid checked

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...hen-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html

12. Thyroid issues when quitting tobacco
There is discussion currently among the medical community about possible thyroid problems occurring after smoking cessation. It is not known how widespread this is or how serious. The appearance of thyroid problems soon after quitting is statistically higher than should occur, so there is a question whether smoking suppresses the symptoms of thyroid disease or whether quitting triggers it, or indeed if smoking causes or exacerbates it. This is uncommon so not a major issue for worry. Apparently weight gain or weight loss can be minor effects experienced by many, related to thyroid activity. This whole area is not fully understood so you should not read anything into our commentary, instead please ask your doctor.

I don't think it's a common issue, but I did develop thyroid problems when I quit. Could have been coincidence, but it happened when I quit smoking/started vaping

My doctor told me that the average weight gain is 10 pounds when you quit smoking.I think cigarettes dehydrate your body so that is probably just water weight. The doc told me just to exercise more.I know people who gained 30 lbs.I do know that cigarettes speed up your metabolism so that could be a factor too.I wouldn't worry about it.Who knows what kind of chemicals we were putting in our bodies.:2c:

7lbs could be mostly water weight. If your not taking in any more food then before you shouldnt be putting on fat weight. People say you drink alot more when you start vaping, so I have read. I havent started just yet. Supplies should be here in a couple days.

I have adjusted my diet in the last 2 months and been doing alot of research on that though. Cut back on sugar(drinks, snacks ect) and watch your carb intake. Just makes you a little healthier anyway. Drink plenty of water during the day. Not gonna go into it anymore. I dont wanna derail your thread.

I have observed during my 2 months watching my eating and weight that my weight can fluctuate 4-5lbs over a day so dont get too worried over this.

The first time I quit smoking it lasted for 5 years and I gained a bunch of weight. When I fell off the wagon I started losing weight all of a sudden. Now that I'm vaping - I'm gaining weight again.

In my opinion, it's that cigarettes kill your appetite more than vaping does. I think it has to do with the smoke and nasty taste - not to mention that ciggies deliver more nicotine faster. When you're new to smoking, it makes you pretty ill . . but I think even when you are a regular smoker, it still has an appetite-killing effect . .even though you don't necessarily register the feeling as "queasy" anymore.

You didn't mention in your post - but are you snacking or eating more? One thing that I struggle with is over-eating at meals . .since I always had a smoke after a meal . .it's like I don't know when to stop eating now that I don't smoke, lol.

I quit smoking about 3 years ago, got thyroid disease (not sure its related) and gained tons of weight. I starting vaping as an appetite suppressor 3 weeks ago. I have lost 20 pounds by the scale this morning. When I vape I just dont seem to get hungry. I forgot to eat lunch one day. I cant remember the last time I forgot lunch. My normal day before was breakfast-huge snack-lunch-huge snack-dinner-huge snack basically 6 meals a day. Now I dont snack. Just vape. Only my personal experience thus far.

Smoking cessation leads to an average weight gain of 9 pounds in the first year, with most of the weight being gained in the first 3 months.
It is caused by a combination of (slowed medabolism...nicotine speeds up your metabolism), increased appetitie and caloric intake (nicotine is a mild appetite suppressant), but also in some people the mechanisms mentioned by others above (rturn of taste making food taste better, and slowing of thyroid function). So it is NOT the vaping that causes weight gain, and if you absorbing cigarette-like quantities of nicotine (which you may not be), that would be more likely to reduce the weight gain.
This link summarizes the best evidence on this: Weight gain in smokers after quitting cigarettes: meta-a... [BMJ. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI

Yeah I had a friend that said he gained weight once he quite... Some chemical in cigarettes apparently lessen your appetite. I've actually heard of obese people smoking analogs to lose weight. Not such a bright idea though... haha

I wonder why all people that smoke aren't skinny then?

As you get older also, weight gets harder to manage. I used to be easy for me to shed a couple of pounds here and there, now I actually have to work at it  Water will actually make you gain initially then it will level off as you get used to seeing those extra lines on the scale. I am actually looking forward to enjoying walking outside this coming summer without the smokes :)

Winter we do tend to put more weight on our bodies. I'm not outside doing things, it gets darker earlier and I tend to sit around more either on the computer (thanks to ECF ;) ) or in front of the television. I really need to dust of those Pilates excercise DVD's.
