I'm getting ready to try to make some DIY juices. At the moment I'm just gathering materials.

So far I have ordered or acquired:

1 quart PG from Essential Depot
60 ml 48 mg/ml levonic from Box Elder
an assortment of syringes and 15 ml conical tubes for mixing
nitrile gloves
HUMCO Glycerine from a drug store (not sure if this is appropriate, but it says USP)

Things I need to get:

some large gauge dispensing needles (will probably order from Zephyrtronics), but I'm not sure what size I need. I have 20 and 21 gauge that I used for something else, but I don't think these will be large enough for the glycerine.

some flavorings. I've been looking at several sites, but I haven't decided what to start with. Any advice on this would be welcome. I've ordered some pre-made juices from a couple of different companies, and I'm going to wait until I see what sorts of flavors I like before I order DIY flavors, I think.

Oh, and a locking safe box to keep supplies in so my kids don't get into them.

What else do I need to get started?

As for size of needles, I like 18 for most things and 14 for glycerin. I haven't started DIY either, actually, but I add VG and PG to some of my juices. I also ran across some 1ml syringes today (at work, not a vendor, sorry) that measure to 0.01ml. They're the same kind I've used to administer insulin and give tb tests. Might end up being useful for making small batches with precise measurements.

1. the glycerine you got is fine... place the bottle of glycerine in a cup of hot water and it will thin it out and make it easier to use.
2. go to your local pharmacy and get Luer-Lok syringes and then buy the Luer-Lok hub needles from Zephyrtronics.
3. I only buy the 14 guage needles..(easy to clean out) length of needle depends on the size of bottles you are extracting liquid out of. I bought 10 of the 1 1/2" (ZT-5-014-15-X) from zephrytronics. One stop DIY has 3" and 2" 14 guage needles
4. Onestop DIY is also a good place to get TFA flavors. To save $ start with basic flavors that you like. Just remember DIY is not cheap to begin with but once you have a supply of the basics it will be much cheaper than premade. Go to the DIY section of the forum and find a recipe that sounds good to you for starters.
Good Luck and don't forget to share any good recipes you create here in the DIY section.

That's what I was thinking of doing. Maybe getting 1-3 that sounded good and just buying the specific flavorings for those few recipes. That way I don't feel like I have to completely stock my 'flavor kitchen' from day 1.

Any reason in particular for Luer-lok connections? I didn't look to see what my husband brought me home from work so I'm not sure if they are luer or the slip on ones. I wish I still worked in a lab, that would make acquiring plasticware a lot easier :)

Thanks for the replies.

Lambch3p- is flavorconcentrate the name of the shop?

Kris- 1 ml syringes would be good to have. I have a source already, so no need for a shop name. I think I actually have a set of pipettors in the basement somewhere. Could make 'micro' batches with those if I wanted. LOL.

Yes, flavorconcentrate(dot)com. :)
