Yay!!!! I belong to a Progressive site and watched the debate/vote online! It was like a huge party afterward and I kept crying. I am so proud that my state government recognized the injustice and corrected it! Equal Rights For All!!!

Check out the Empire State Building!

14 years Beth and I have been together. While I'm thrilled about NY...I really am looking forward to the day when ALL states allow us to finally be a married couple. :) But yeah...GO NY!!!!! :D

It would be phenomenal if all the states voted it in, but realistically, I don't see that happening for many years, if ever. I don't know if the Federal Government can pass a law to legalize Marriage Equality because marriage is a state's matter. That's why the horrendous DOMA is being shot down by the courts...thank goodness for that at least! :)

Like most homos I know have been saying, I have mixed feelings about it. I'm not even sure if I want to get married (I'm open to the possibility, but I'm not sure I like the commitment... I think I'd rather have periodic "anniversary" celebrations on the scale of a small wedding, lol.) but I want the option! It's not really about the weddings, it's about feeling like a second class citizen in my home country. I'm already looked down on by most people in the religion I was raised in and all the bigots here in the deep south. The law shouldn't be allowed to discriminate against me as well.

And you all know that NY is the cool state, so whatever we do everyone else follows.

Spoken like a true New Yorker... Seeing as how we here in Massachusetts beat you guys to it by about, oh, 7 YEARS!!! ;)

I kid... I kid... Good job NY! 6 States (+DC and the Coquille Tribe) down only 44 to go!!!

You know, I'm happy NY state finally acknowledge that everyone should have the same rights, but honestly, I was kinda hoping it would all go the other way- so NOBODY could legally be married. I don't think it's the best institution, but it would probably be alot more fun if it was illegal.

roflmao!!!

Note how MA is so uncool the trend never caught on. And perhaps delayed the process! :p :p

Dude, I was in the cape a month ago for a week or so on Vacation for a friends wedding. Literally everyone I ran into at a grocery store, in a park.. anywhere.. they were all a-holes. Wtf is up with your state o.0

exactly... it's nice to have the choice, lol! I get nauseous at the idea of sharing finances and stuff but if my love was sick and needed insurance and marriage was the only option, at least we could get married with a really good prenup and stuff. If I fell in love with a woman from another country, I could marry her to keep her in the states or wherever.

I will point out that that was the Cape... Kind of like the difference between upstate NY (yay!) and the rest of NY (not so yay!)...

As a Western Mass native we kind of just like to pretend that the rest of the state doesn't always exist. Of course, when the sports teams are doing well and our legislators actually do things properly we definitely show our support! Otherwise though we tend to act more like Vermont but with less cows and more things to do!
