Come Have Fun and Learn about “Gay Pride”. . .
And Why It Means So Much Too So Many . . .
No Matter Who They Are Or Their Sexual Orientation

th_Triangle-Pink2.jpg

June 28, 1969 the “Stonewall Rebellion/Riots” happened at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village in New York City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots); This event was the catalyst and genesis of the Modern “Gay” Rights Movement in the United States. As such - June has become the month when “Gay Pride” is not only recognized, but honored both Nationally and Internationally by the “Gay Community” at large. To bring awareness to this major event in Gay History, I am having a Contest for the ECF Community for . . . “GAY PRIDE” MONTH

How to Enter: The Contest will be "Important Moments in Gay History" (Entries would have to include The Event, The Date it Happened and Why It Was Important) and/or "Quotes from Famous Gay People throughout History" (Entries would have to include The Quote, by Whom, and When they lived) . . .

Examples:

Entry #1: “Important Moments in Gay History”

In 1945 - Upon the liberation of Nazi concentration camps by Allied forces, those interned for homosexuality are not freed, but required to serve out the full term of their sentences.

Entry #2: “Important Moments in Gay History”

In 1950 - The Mattachine Society, the first sustained American homosexual group, is founded in Los
Angeles (November 11); 190 individuals in the United States are dismissed from government
employment for their sexual orientation, commencing the Lavender scare.

Entry #3: “Important Moments in Gay History”

“The Daughters of Bilitis” was founded in San Francisco in 1955; This is the first National Lesbian Political and Social Organization in the United States.

Entry #4: “Quote By a Famous Gay Person”

“I've had to fight to be myself and to be respected. I'm proud to carry this stigma and call myself a lesbian. I don't boast about it or broadcast it, but I don't deny it. I've had to confront society and the Church, which says that homosexuals are damned. That's absurd. How can someone who's born like this be judged? I didn't attend lesbian classes. No one taught me to be this way. I was born this way, from the moment I opened my eyes in this world. I've never been to bed with a man. Never. That's how pure I am; I have nothing to be ashamed of. My gods made me the way I am.”
Chavela Vargas (Costa Rican-born Mexican singer, Born 1919 - ? and publically came out at the age of 81)

Entry #5: “Quote By a Famous Gay Person”

"Be yourself, everyone else is already taken." . . .
Oscar Wilde (Irish Poet, Novelist, Dramatist and Critic, 1854-1900).

Entry #6: “Quote By a Famous Gay Person”

“I am the love that dare not speak its name.” . . .
Lord Alfred Douglas (British Author, Poet, and Translator, 1845-1900).

Entry #1 Important moment in gay history and a quote

One of my favorite comedians, Todd glass, came out of the closet on Marc Marons podcast. I think anytime a celebrity 'comes out' it seems to make people more accepting of other peoples sexuality, and that's definitely another step in the right direction.

Entry #1: “Quote By a Famous Gay Person”

"These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed. I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man." -Enrique "Ricky" Martín Morales (born December 24, 1971), better known as Ricky Martin, is a Puerto Rican pop singer and actor who achieved prominence, first as a member of the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, then as a solo artist since 1991.

Reported by People Magazine online taken from Martin's website 'rickymartinmusic.com' on Monday, March 29, 2010.

"Important Moment in Gay History"

In 1964 in the necropolis of Saqqara an archaeologist discovered a tomb depicting scenes of two manicurists ( Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep ) in intimate embrace. They had both been employed in the Palace of King Niuserre (Fifth Dynasty) around 2,400BC. The images of the two men in the tomb were very similar to those of male-female married couples found in other tombs dating from the same period.

Not an entry, but for those of you who haven't read the letter that was supposedly sent to Dr. Laura (a radio show host that speaks out against homosexuality), it is pretty funny and points out some of the hypocrisy of using the Bible as an argument against homosexuality.
