I dont really know how "buddy" or "mate" sounds to english or american ears. But I like changes. In a while maybe I will use the word "pal" or "bloke". I also found on the dictionary that "...." means friend too??!!! English is a crazy language lol

Personally, I like the 'mate' being used, it says close friend better than any other word I can think of offhand.

Pal and buddy are informal, they sound young, also......bloke just sounds like anyone,not particularly a friend but maybe an acquaintance, just my I can educate Imeo?!?!?!?
