Could try playing with your voltage. Start low and move up until the taste is better.
Press and hold U until you get back to seeing the 4.0, then each click moves it up. Keep clicking until you get it to 3.3 which is the lowest setting. Take a taste. Move up to 3.5 or whatever and taste again, repeat until it tastes better for you.

This is a good instructional video, but for anyone new, notice it was filmed September, 2013. He talks about the fire button being so hard to push. That has been changed in the newer models, I think. I am female and have no problem whatsoever pushing the button with my thumb. I think there were a lot of complaints with the first ones back then, and they have since corrected this flaw in the device.
