Hi all

I have moved into e-cig to eventually kick the habit, and want to move slowwwwwly down to 0% nicotine, but the throat hit as we all know is essential.

I read on a forum post that it is possible by adding a few drops of vodka to glycerol and filling up. I've just tried doing it on a cart that's not meant for filling, but i was able to get the top off and drop some homemade eliquid in with 0% nicotine, just as an experiment. Plennnnnnty of vapour, but no throat hit :(

Any tips?

Jon

I think that Nicotine is the only way to get a proper throat hit. It irritates the back of your throat with gives you that hit. You could go down to lower nic levels and try a minty flavour to lower yourself down. This is just based on other threads that I have read. I am still vaping 18-24mg so I can't speak from experience.

I saw someone working on a pepper extraction for this purpose, haven't heard an update just yet. Menthol is probably your best bet at this stage. And if you are just sloooooowly droping the nic levels you probably will just get used to not getting a TH at the end. Also a high voltage device will probably work better for keeping TH there.

I've heard of some TH additives that are based in Capsicum.

...yep, that should help replace that "peppery" taste/irritation of/from nicotine...stepping upto a 5v or VV mod and using a 1.5ohm dual coil carto will add a nice, warm feeling which will help add to TH as well.........

What percentage of PG/VG was your mixture? If it was 100%, or mostly VG, you won't get any throat hit. PG will give you more throat hit, but less vapor. But especially for 0 nick juice, you will need PG in your mix. You can also try adding some pure grain alcohol (Everclear) or vodka to your juice.

Try more vodka?
Agreed, I added Vodka to a bottle and the throat hit doubled. But, be aware that vaping Vodka or a clear alcohol does not NOT make you drunk (well, it doesn't for me). But, it does take a small-toll on your liver. If you've never drank a lot then it should be of no concern. Pick yourself up some Milk Thistle herp pills (Walmart) for a healthy liver. Then add some Vodka and vape away. :)

p.s. Umm, don't add the Milk Thistle to your E-Juice. I just mentioned it for health. BTW, I know this is off topic, but for those who are hard drinkers or were then Milk Thistle freaken works to help repair your liver. Hope this helps anyone who might read it.

Nicotine IS throat hit

You can get some throat sensation with some flavors: menthol. mint, cinnamon, ginger, other seasonings, pepper (FreedomSmokeUSA.com sells a black Pepper eliquid and flavoring), some liquor flavored eliquids

There are so-called throat hit additives that are supposed to provide some throat sensation or peppery irritation. Flavourart flavorings used to have one called Qhit and you can check for that though I heard they changed the name of it. VaporNine sells some other hit additive. Totally Wicked sells a very very strong capsacin liquid (hot pepper chemical).

Just as high PG juices let nicotine's hit through better, high PG juices will also let the effects of these flavors and additives through better. Heat may enhance the throat sensation of these flavorings and additives (i.e using a fat model or mod with LR atomizer or cartomizer). PG alone has no TH. PG only lets flavor and the hit of nicotine through better.

I'm sorry but this is just wrong.

PG on its own gives NO TH whatsoever. Dripping a couple of drops of pure PG on an atty produces the same TH as smoking an unlit cigarette, as in ZERO.

The wording of this is very important because this kind of comment confuses new vapers and likely turns many of them away from vaping and a return to smoking. PG allows more TH from the nicotine to come through as compared to VG. Neither PG or VG produces a TH on its own accord.

TH comes from nicotine and warmth of vapor. The OP *may* benefit from a high/vv mod. As others have mentioned, some flavorings produce *something of* a TH.

Why do you keep throwing this out there like they work??

As Richie accurately pointed out, GOOD, TRUE TH is comprised of two main parts, nicotine and warmth of the vapor, period. Additives do NOT WORK. They might provide throat irritation, like pepper, but they do not provide good throat hit.

If someone doesn't even like throat hit how would one know what works and what doesn't. It just misleads new people.

I haven't smoked a cigarette in a week or two now but I had been slowly stopping since I started vaping a year ago. I still vape 24mg juice strictly because I love the TH but I have no desire to smoke a cigarette. You don't necessarily need to go down to 0mg to quit smoking, you just need the will power to not pick up an analog. Just my opinion.

Surprisingly many non menthol smokers like Menthol liquid! Menthol will work for some guys.

I am one of these people. I was a heavy Red smoker. Significant other was a 100% menthol smoker. Once or twice a year I'd take a drag and it was nice but even if I ran out of cigarettes, smoking a full Menthol wasn't for me. Even with only playing around with e-cig's for a week, I like the menthols. There's a certain combination of factors that remind me of smoking in a way my brain needs. For me, who is trying to get of cigarettes but not necessarily Nic, it's actually helpful for me to have a flavor I like that -doesn't- replicate what I was used to. For her it's the opposite. She needs things to be similar to what they were before. In both cases, Menthol helps.
