Hello all! Kindwick here. Just would like to introduce myself. I have just gotten back into vaping and have been learning alot over the last month. vaping has helped me kick the tobacco habit and I am sure now at this point, I will never go back to analogs. I am heavy into sub-ohm tanks and VW/VV mods right now, and I am quite the flavor junky at this point. I have little experience with RDAs but I am slowly learning. All the questions I have had so far about vaping have led me to these forums so I figured it's about time I joined. I hope to learn alot more from you folks and I hope to be able to share what I have learned to anyone who needs the info.

Thanks, members of ECF! I am proud to be a part of this community finally!

Hello @Kindwick . Welcome to ECF! Very glad to have you here and vaping with us here on the forum

Good to hear you've kicked the 'death sticks'. RDA's you'll have ALOT of fun with, if you like vaping now when you will love it even more when you get into rebuilding drippers. There are loads of people here to help you out if you get stuck with anything (me included).

So join in the fun and welcome aboard!

My second RDA build ever! Twisted 28g kanthal, dual angled center spaced 6 wrap coils...that's a mouthful!

Thats looking good @Kindwick. You've picked a really nice RDA to build on aswell :thumb: How's she vaping for ya?

Now you've got the 'build-bug', you'll be enjoying your vape much better. You can control how you want to vape now standard coils, vertical coils, twisted strands, bigger clouds, more flavour... the list is almost endless. :)

Any advice on builds for flavor chasing at this time would be great! I follow directions very well :D Or take a picture of it and I could probably duplicate it. I currently have 24, 28, and 32 gauge kanthal in stock. Again, flavor is my aim.

She vapes decent...the first couple hits are jam packed with flavor, but it tapers off on the 3rd drag. She reads at 0.54 ohms at the moment and I can vape comfortably at 45watts, anything lower is meh...anything higher is hot hot hot! Tell me what you think your best flavor build is and I will try it out. I am all ears!!

I would suggest heating and squeezing the coils gently to compress them together. Also too much air flow will mute your flavour (and the velocity has a lot of air flow!), so try not to open it right out. Higher ohms will also give better flavour.

On the velocity I once read of someone using a single coil run from left to right down the centre between the posts (so the ends of the coil face the mouth/airflow part of the topcap), which he was saying gave him fantastic flavour.

You could also try a clapton (loads of tube vids on how to make them). I would try 32 wrapped round 28 given the gauges you have. Should give you a good vape.

So here is a photo of my 32 wrapped around 24 giving me a .24 ohm reading on this build. Since I don't have any mechanical mods, what is a good wattage to throw at these coils? I can go into mech mode with my XPro M80 Plus which by default throws enough wattage to hit around 3.7 volts (around 51 watts). Is this right, or should I throw some more juice at it? 3.7 volts is a decent vape and good flavor, but I feel I could be getting better out of it. I tried the max of 80 watts and that's just too intense and too hot of a vape for me. With these variable wattage mods, I am just confused at what wattage I should be using.

Regarding wattage, the short answer is start low and then slowly work your way up. Once it tastes a bit off, take it down a notch. Different juices take different watts to maximize flavor. There are a whole Lotta factors that determine your ideal wattage, but that's the quick and dirty way to figure it out.
