If this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move this thread.

Hello All,

What would be the best/cheapest place to get some glass syringes for use with oils and such. I'm tired of messing up the plunging action on my cheap plastic ones when I use them with any of the oil flavorings.

I would only need maybe a 3ml or 5ml and 10ml (preferrably with the luer-lock tip).

Good idea - glass syringe luer lock | eBay

Personally I would pick up some Mohr or serological pipettes instead. They're a lot more accurate (being several times longer than an equivalent syringe) and there are no moving parts whatsoever - the juice doesn't even come in contact with anything except for glass unless you misuse the device and bring the liquid up past the actual volume of the pipette. I use a 2ml pipette pump with 1ml pipettes for my flavoring, and a precision scale for my VG/PG bases.

By the way, these pipettes are NOT like the cheapo dollar store bulb-head pipettes you may have seen/used. They're much more precise, and are designed for a different use altogether.

May I ask what kind of oils you're using? I'm assuming this is for juice and not cooking?

I mainly have this problem with the "Orange (Sweet)" flavoring from TFA. I'm pretty sure that this is due to it being oil based, but I could be wrong. I have also been interested in some of the oil based flavorings from TFA, but didn't want to purchase any others until I got this (syringe plunger sticking inside the dang tube) problem under control.

And where would be a good place to get these?

I've listed retail science suppliers under bottle suppliers. The suppliers listed are good companies, and many of them have glass pipettes. If you're going that route, you also need a pipette pump. Btw, while I've used them in a lab, I don't have home diy experience with them, so I can't comment on how well they work with oils.

I've seen chat about glass syringes on the site but never a review- I too could use a small measuring device in glass. The Mohr pipettes look like they would do the trick but I'm sure it will be broken in no time. I have troubles with menthol, peppermint, koolada trashing the plastic syringes. For me the easiest solution is to buy 100 1ml syringes on Ebay for $15. I wish someone that has used the glass ones would pipe up and let us all know how they work.

I actively use plastic pipettes and the liquid never touches anything but the walls of the pipette, properly used - so if you buy a glass pipette, it'll be oil safe by its very nature.

I would definitely buy serological rather than Mohr pipettes; serological pipettes are for positive measurement, and read from 0, whereas Mohr pipettes are meant to be filled to a 0 level and then dispensed from there.

When using pipettes be aware that there two types, to deliver (TD) and to contain (TC). The most accurate pipettes are TC volumetric. Serological pipettes are not calibrated. If you happen to chip the tip you will not get the correct volume. Also, these pipettes need to be properly washed and dried using a pipette washer with special detergent and dried using a pipette dryer. If this is not done you will end up with residue in the pipettes causing improper measurement. Just my:2c:
