hmmm....
gotta digg your post.
i would have fit in well 40/50 years ago, missed it by that much!
i believe i have to create a scene, when one should already exist. alright, it does exist, but not in the capacity it could.

as for the rebound,
i am already enjoying the single life (sans the dual occupied house). not looking for a relationship, for a while..
now relations, thats a different story.

AH - The Sixties Revisited . . .

AND - YES - Although I was younger then most and not even in college at the time, I was a "Hippie" & "Protester" . . .

I remember this one very well, for a number of reasons too, including that it was a student protest . . .

and Unc, what is that a pic of? university protest with a death?

Although there are many people who do not agree depending on their perspective, however it was a very well know picture of the - "KENT STATE MASSACRE" - that happened on May 4, 1970 ("My" 16th Birthday :( ) and was used in every Paper throughout the Nation and World:

There was a group of "Us" that drove to Washington DC right after this incident to join-in the National protest of these actions at the National Mall & Lincoln's Memorial 5 days later on May 9th that looked very similar to the scene "You" would have seen in the movie "Forest Gump".

gnarly!
i remember learning about this in school.
amazing how a national tragedy can cause such a strong movement across the country.

what was the protest in DC like? was there a march, or was it stationary? did you square off with any authority? was it mostly peaceful? were you wearing bell bottoms?

OH MY ! ! ! "You" are an inquisitive one, aren't you ? ? ? ? Most of the marches were - NOT NICE - as "You" might think, especially when confronted by Police or Military Personnel at the time . . . Yes - there was a "March" that is why they were called a "March on Washington" (and usually still are), then there were speakers also - so I guess you can say they were stationary and peaceful (That is also what they were sometimes called "Peace Rallies") too . . . Well - That was until "We" were hit with TEAR GAS ! ! ! OR - Ya' were even "shot" at or hit with "Billy Clubs" and beaten up too . . . Which happened all to often . . . NOT NICE AT ALL ! ! !

As for "My" attire/clothing during that period of time - it varied a lot and "Bell Bottoms" & Regular Jeans (called Boot cut today) were the norm for "Me" to wear - I wore them along with Dashikis, Tye dyed T-Shirts (I made myself), and a lot of other type of clothing too . . . The strangest thing that I wore - by today standards - would have been a white "priest" under robe with embroidery around the collar and down the front (think of a Kaftan robe) that I use to wear at times and actually wore during this particular "March on Washington" and a couple of others too (Made for easy running or jumping into the water to get away from the tear gas ;)) . . . Just Sayin' . . .;)

EDIT: OKAY - I would appreciate if "WE" Stopped this discussion - I Need To Get OFF This Subject - I'm getting emotional and Not feeling to good about it right now, since the song just brought back to many bad memories too . . . THANKS.

2: Even though you want to get off the topic Uncle, there is one coming this year with 12 million people going to DC. I will stop there if I need to.

Hey 2 different discussion - Past (which I normally don't mind, just a little hard right at the moment) and Present . . . So, If "You" want to mention something important that is coming up - PLEASE FEEL FREE - especially if it is informative . . . ALL IS GOOD ! ! !

I was in Kent Ohio the day that happened. A little younger than you Uncle, but only a few years. My family was in a small diner eating when it came across the news on the small black and white above the counter. One of a handful of memories I will never forget.

Edit: I'm sorry to bring it up again Uncle but the song and memories stirs a bit of emotion in myself also.

5. hmmm ... looks like I need to find out about this. I'm all for people rising up against our beast of a greedy government! So tired of the American people being their slaves! This is supposed to be the home of freedom, isn't it? (and I can't even look at my cell phone while I'm in the car or I get a ticket?)

3: Okay it is a march to restore our constitution, to stop spying on us and tell those in DC to shape up or get voted out.

4: If I am not mistaken it is called "Operation spring" and will be held May 16th. Just looked it up to be sure and yes that is it. Watch how the big news networks will not say anything about it, since they are owned by big corporations who pay big dollars to have their way.

Thanks Unc for sharing your experience. Must have been a surreal experience.
I would like to think i would have involved myself. Ill leave it there.

as for future rallys, i may not. while i find it important to stand up, united, against the oppressive government and our disappearing constitutional rights. i joined in the occupy movement. which did nothing, but prove to me how helpless we are to initiate change.
there may be a time where the people had power, but that day is long gone. thoughts to the contrary are often naive and lack direction or application. not trying to be cynical, i fully support the movement, but results are far fetched. i find this to be demoralizing and makes me lack confidence in our country's future.
