Folks who have the
eleaf istick - What is YOUR rating for this
device? Any issues/concerns?
I have a 20 Watt. I'd give it a 7/10.
For me, it is slightly too small for my hands--not unusable or uncomfortable, but I do need to shift it in my hand to hit the fire button.
This version fires in mean mode, a technical term that translates into firing higher than what you expect it to fire (for example, if you vape other devices at, say, 8 watts, and then try to vape the same topper at 8 watts on the iStick, you
may end up at something that feels closer to 10 watts). Related to this is the fact that the device does not have step-down, meaning that if the battery is full (4.2 volts) and your wattage calls for, say, 3.7 volts, the device cannot accommodate the .5 volt difference and fires at 4.2 volts anyway (pushing you to a hotter vape). This changes once your battery crosses the voltage threshold: assuming the previous example, once the battery drains down to 3.7 volts, your vape should be accurate (mean mode notwithstanding). Once lower than the necessary voltage, the device will "boost" to maintain that voltage until the battery is drained.
One further complaint that I have heard is that the 510 connection is not very good and the threads will wear out fairly quickly. I have not encountered this, as I just keep the 510-ego adapter in place, but it is worth noting.
All of that said, I do use it--usually with my SquapeR which can tolerate the extra power and usually at night when I'm not sitting at my desk. By all accounts, the 30 watt version has a better 510 connector and has switched to RMS mode, alleviating issue 3 and, partially, 2. I expect that the 50 watt will retain these improvements and be slightly taller and wider (fitting better in my hand). Because it will use two internal batteries, there is also hope that it will perform step-down, as it will already have to more carefully regulate the power output. In fact, of the three devices I have determined I will likely purchase to replace my aging and dead MVP, the 50-watt iStick is one.
