This is my 6th day review of the 5v Matte Black GLV from Great Lakes Vapor. This is also my first mod ever!
The GLV was a 901 pre-order kit - besides the mod, it came with two 3.7v 16340 batteries, a 901 atty and a charger. Total price was $120.00 including shipping.
I received my GLV in about 3 weeks after placing my order. It arrived in a box, well sealed with tape. The GLV itself was wrapped in bubble wrap.
INITIAL IMPRESSION: This is a well constructed mod. It's about 4 and 3/4 inches in length and about 1 and 1/2 inches in diameter. It has a nice weight to it, neither heavy nor light. The threads on the cap and body are well machined and deeply grooved virtually eliminating cross threading or over tightening. No fiddling around f components.
A surprising feature is that it seems to be ergonomically designed. No matter how you pick it up or hold it, there is no fatigue in the hand, wrist or arm. The switch is large and easily accessible via thumb or forefinger. As a woman, it fits beautifully and comfortably in my hand.
It produces a tone of warm, moist, flavorful vapor consistently. There was no miss firing of the switch, and no falling off of vapor production as the batteries ran low. You will know the batteries need to be replaced with fresh ones when there is no vapor production.
CONS: The only drawbacks that I can see are minor ones. The atomizer holder has two welds on either side that could have been buffed out better.
Be careful on choosing rechargeable batteries. I purchased cr123a 16340 3.6v 880mAh Ultra Fire protected, rechargeable batteries (the grey ones) from Battery Junction. However, these batteries are a tad bit too wide to fit into the GLV. I have some of the blue ones coming from Deal Extreme that I'm hoping fits.
Due to the close proximity of the atty to the finger, you have to be careful not to touch the atty after some heavy vaping. The atty gets very, very hot.
I did not notice any vent holes on the body of the GLV. I don't know if this would be an issue with batteries over heating.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Customer service from Jay is excellent. When my GLV came, it was missing the 2 batteries and atty. I notified Jay and he immediately sent out the missing parts. When I got my package, I was surprised to see that he included another battery charger.
I did find that the best way to get my questions answered quickly was to post on the forum. He replied within the hour if not minutes.
RECOMMENDATIONS: If you're a noob into the land of mods, like I am, I would highly recommend the GLV. If you are looking for something that is well built, solid, ergonomically designed, that produces tons of warm, flavorful vapor, then the GLV will do that. The large button switch is easy to find. I had the GLV in my pocket while gardening and it never accidentally activated on me. For the craftsmanship of this mod, the price is more than reasonable.
