Going Through Security At Cancun Airport With Disposable E-Cig

I’m a very casual e-cig smoker that used to be a very casual cigarette smoker. I have tried a few e-cigs, but lately have really liked using the Logic E-cigs that they sell in 7/11’s around me. To be honest, I don’t even know the terminology that is used because the ones I use would probably be classified as disposable (although I do have a rechargeable one as well).

Ok, so I’m going to Cancun and am a little worried about taking the Mexican Security/Customs at the Cancun airport. For the trip, I was planning on taking just a couple of the disposable ones. You can see what they look like right here:

LOGIC BLACK LABEL - REGULAR 1.8% NICOTINE BY VOLUME - Logicecig Store

It’s basically the two parts that screw together. The longer part is the battery and the shorter part contains the juice (I’m assuming). I don’t think it’s possible for liquids to come out of this thing; at least I’ve never seen any leakage.

Can anyone offer any insight as to if I should just leave them at home or bring them with? I was going to throw them in my checked-luggage. Should I leave them in the original packaging so it’s more clear as to what they are? Or should I attempt to be a little more discreet by putting it in with my toiletries?

I guess I’m a little worried about getting stopped by Mexican security and then having to explain what it is and why I have it.

Any help would be appreciated….sorry on my lack of e-cig terminology :)

Just got back from cancun about a month ago. Had a whole bag full of ecig supplies with me. 4 ego batteries 2 clearomizer tanks & 5-6 bottles of juice + an eroll which is similar to the pick u posted. Actually had my bags searched in cancun.

They opened up the bag with all my gear took a peek inside & sent me on my way no questions asked. They were actually more concerned about whether I had more real than the carton of real cigarettes I ha in my bag for my girlfriend.

You'll be fine

Never been to Mexico but spent the better part of June traveling with disposables. Most TSA didn't even blink - I pulled them out of my purse and they were in a ziploc baggie on top of the purse in my tray. Guy in Reno (TSA) asked me if those were e-cigs, said they looked really weird on the scanner. I imagine they do with all those little batts and all together like that. I did leave them in the original package except for the one I was using.

I have no experience taking e-cigs thru an airport I'm sure others who have will chime in. My guess would be checked luggage in original packaging, if it appears You are trying to hide something You just may be asking for a lot of hassle. You said You were a very casual vapor, so I am imagining You won't be having a nic fit and need to access as soon as possible when the plane lands.

Logic was the first e-cig I tried, I liked them but shortly afterwards, after finding this site moved on to other devices. I still have My Logic though, i'm sure the battery is drained and I don't know if there is still juice in the carto, maybe I'll check and see just for kicks

Ok, so maybe that's what I'll attempt to do. Leave them in the original packaging and then just stick them in the suitcase. I kinda doubt there will be any issues unless I get stopped for a manual inspection. I think in Mexico they do the Red Light/Green Light security search. Not really sure how much they actually search the suitcases though.

Just got in from Cancun last week. I'm coming up on 3 years vaping, and this was my 3rd trip to Mexico in that time. I carry enough stuff there, so that my backups have backups, and even though I've been asked about them once, I've never been hassled about my ecigs. The time I got asked about it, I had 20 cartos in a case, and they may have looked like ammo shells to them on the X-Ray system. When I told them they were e-cigarette parts, they waved me on.

This last trip, I had two Provari's in my luggage along with two Protanks, 100 ml of juice, 4 batteries and chargers. I was carrying an Evic with a ProTank in my pocket that was placed in the grey bins on check-in both in Toronto and in Cancun. No questions asked.

Go for it.. and have fun!

I just took my eGo (2) with tanks (T2) and 2 small bottles of juice (15mil) in my back pack right through the X-ray at the check point. NO PROBLEM. Somebody I work with did the same thing. As far as I know no one has had any problems in the US. I found an empty gate and sat there reading a book and vaped right up until bording. NO PROBLEM. I had a short flight so I didn't risk the wrath of the flight crew by vaping on the plane. I've talked to a lot of people, and it seems the TSA doesn't care one iota, or they must be trained to know what e-cigs are.

I'm going to Nicaragua soon. Don't have link to thread I want to share but long story short someone went there and was arrested for possession of nicotine and had to shell up loot to settle the case and get a permit so he could legally carry it.

I've looked into the law there and honestly already know its hit or miss. Some cops over there like making extra money through scare tactics, etc.

Most of the world is cool with it... Some have outlawed it.. And others really depend on individual situations. For my scenario ill keep you posted. I'm debating whether to bring recharables or stock up on disposables.

One last question, I'm seeing things about the need to separate the smaller part of the e-cig (cartos) from the battery. So would my plan on leaving the logic in the original package not be ideal? If I was going to separate them, maybe I'd have to put the battery in my checked luggage with electronics and then the smaller part with the liquids? (toiletries)

Any thoughts? Or stick with the original packaging in checked luggage?

I know when you go into Mexico they x-ray all your luggage, so does anyone know if these things would trigger a manual search as well? Sounds like people haven't had that issue.

PS. I should mention that the only reason I care is that I've been a closet smoker followed by a closet vaper. So I guess I don't want to take the chance of my GF seeing my e-cig supplies. Long story, but I smoked for a year after we met and quit and moved onto the e-cigs. I can be much more stealthy with the e-cigs and don't want a customs agent asking questions :p

I used to travel for business almost every week out of the year. My carry on bag had so many electronics in it, I probably could fashion a bomb out of it if MacGuyver was sitting next to me.

Of course, I would take out my laptop but the rest of my electronics would pass right through the scanner. Even if they ask to take a look you aren't going to get in any trouble. Pack it in with any phone chargers, iPods, other electronics you have and they should all look the same on the x-ray.

As for checking them with your luggage, that's an easy way to make sure you are not found out by your GF. For those who use mods and tanks, I would be careful about that. Ion batteries and liquids tanks can fail in unpressurized luggage holds under the plane. In fact, I believe the TSA is instructing passengers to NOT check Ion batteries bc of this. (I could be wrong).

What ever you do, don't take your vaping gear into the old Soviet block countries. I went Siberia a few month ago and believe you me, you don't want to go through that inspection! On the upside, I did get a complete physical and a thorough prostate exam at no charge as well as three invites to dinner. The Soviets are fierce but friendly!

Since I started vaping I have flown internationally dozens of times, I've never had any problems going through security in any country.

Going through security I put PV's in bin with other carry on items and liquids in quart size baggie.
I remove batteries from devices that have removable batteries and those go in plastic battery case or old 35mm film plastic canister, ego batts turned off, sometimes I remove delivery devices sometimes I don't.

The only issues Ive had were;
once was asked to remove batteries from provari in checked luggage, didn't have a plastic battery case nice tsa folks provided tape to put over battery ends
leaking bottles in checked baggage / slight leaks in carried on devices.

And now the TSA is running a background check on you... :p

Yea, when I typed that I was totally thinking...maybe I shouldn't use the word bomb.

Thanks for posting the TSA rules. I knew batteries were an issue in the unpressurized areas of the plane. That tidbit should probably be put somewhere for more ECF members to see. I can imagine some serious vapers packing some high-tech equipment.

Mexico does still use the red light/green light system at the San Ysidro crossing from San Diego to Tijuana. At the old Puerto Mexico, now closed, it was actually an old traffic signal strapped to a pole with a pushbutton wired to it, funky but functional ...

The new facility at El Chaparral has a much more sophisticated system for diverting cars to secondary inspection, seems honestly random, and the inspectors are usually young and mostly female. The days of pilfering from tourist luggage seem to be over ...

I frequently take the airport shuttle into Tijuana, and go through the sparkling new pedestrian building at El Chaparral. Have crossed numerous times with disposables and an eGo. If it even shows up on the crude scanner, no one has ever commented. On the rare occasions when I do get the "red light", a very polite and eager youngster does no more than open my bag and glance inside, as if embarrassed by the tradition of larceny that was common in the past ...

I've read that Mexico has (sadly) banned the sale of e-cigs, you don't see any vaping products in the stores in Tijuana. And I have never yet had them "discovered" at Mexican Customs, so I'm not sure how they would react ...

Just to be safe, I carry my eGo and a few disposables in my shirt pocket, and the charger in my bag ...

Vaping in Mexico is a non-issue, since everyone smokes everywhere, despite the national laws. The only awkwardness is that gringos get tapped constantly for a "spare cigarette" (as if there were extra ones in a pack ?). I have to repeatedly explain "No tengo mas" ...

Crossing back into the US at San Ysidro, my vaping gear has never aroused any suspicion at the baggage scanner. The machine is ancient, and the image on the screen appears to be very low resolution, and probably cannot distinguish anything the size of a eGo ...

I would be curious to hear real experiences with Mexican Customs at airports, and the disposition of vaping gear ...
