Hello! I'm Red, and I am soon to be an ex-smoker.
I have been watching and reading over the last week all of the stories of people quitting all the while getting more and more excited for my starter kit to arrive in the mail (hopefully today). I've been considering this purchase for awhile now and did my research before I bought. I bought a KR808D-1 model starter kit, if you were wondering.
I have been smoking for 25 years. Wow. Doing the math on that one just scared the hell out of me. I "stopped" twice during that 25 years, once for 3 years, during part of that I had my first daughter. Then again later for the pregnancy and birth of my twin daughters.
Back then, I was a very heavy smoker (1 1/2 PAD) and about 6 years ago we moved some place that I was not allowed to smoke indoors which cut me back tremendously because I am just too lazy to go outside very often. Especially since I live in Illinois and the winters are rather brutal.
So I was down to about 3-4 cigarettes per day. Unless, of course I was driving, drinking, or allowed to smoke indoors. In those instances it was insane how much I would smoke. My boyfriend is currently in Virginia and that 15 hour drive attributes to around a pack and a half to keep me occupied. Each direction.
My friends and family have all been on me to quit for years. "You hardly smoke anyway, why don't you just quit." Could I? Sure, I probably could of. Did I want to? No. I am one of those that is fixated on the oral part of smoking. The "hand to mouth" action.
My boyfriend and I are making the move in our relationship in May. He's getting out of the Navy and I'm moving in with him (along with the twins). He HATES my smoking. When I arrive after that 15 hour drive and 1 1/2 pack of cigarettes I am given a half hug and told to go take a shower. I HATE that. I know why he does it and I can relate. I hate the smell too... but what else can a girl do? NOW I know!
My friend who went to CES a couple of weeks ago has been listening to my stories and how I have been considering a PV to stop smoking sought out the e-cigarette vendors for me and picked up a disposable. May as well try it before I buy, right? He sent it to me and I placed my order the next night after using it for a day. I showed one of my twins (they are 12) the disposable one and began to take a drag off of it in the house. SHE freaked out, "Don't do that in here!" I kept going and then blew it over her head. "Smell anything?" She sniffed, "Nope." I said, "There you go, babe. Mom's going to quit smoking." She actually smiled at that. Which made my day.
Although I've smoked a couple of analogs waiting for the darn postman to arrive with my package (the .......) I know that once it arrives I'll be so very happy.
After that long story of introduction, I want to thank all of you here for your advice (even though you didn't necessarily know you were giving it to me), your knowledge, and your encouraging words. All of you are truly an inspiration to those of us just starting on this path.
