So, I'm new to vaping. I've read a lot about the potential for restricting the use and sale of ecigs and have decided that I need to learn how to do this without having to buy pre-made stuff from vendors.

I am a homebrewer and built most of my gear myself from items not geared specifically to homebrewing so I'm not unfamiliar with the DIY process.

To start with, I'm thinking I want to do my first mod with a two AA maglite using 18450's as the batts.

I have not soldered before. Thank God for youtube!

Check out battery sizes ;)

18450 = 18mm diameter - 45mm long - 0 (think this indicated a cylindrical cell, not sure though)

AA is equivalent to 14500 = 14mm diameter - 50mm long

Not sure an 18mm diameter battery will fit in an AA flashlight (it might, but it might not also).

You say '18450's', are you planning on using two batteries in the mod? That would be 8V unless you make it variable voltage.

Good Luck! :)

Commie, I was looking into that yesterday after reading TomCatt's post.

I think I am going to have to table this build for a short while. A friend of mine reminds me constantly, just in general, that sometimes I need to learn to walk before I start running. Give me wood or stone and I can build you just about anything with a blueprint that's only in my head and many times without squaring tools and still be spot on. Electronics and cars are not my strong suit. Once I learn how to do a particular task I'm great. Until I learn I fumble too much. I'm gonna buy a VV mod kit from MadVapes.com and start with that. At least then I'll know what materials I'll need to keep my on for future more complicated builds. I will still chronicle that on here, though.
