So, last week I went a little crazy and picked up quite a few (like 60+!) small bottles from various vendors of DIY yourself flavors, including TFA, LA, FA, DIY, FW, CAP and PA flavors.

I've just mixed my first batch- my attempt at a simple RY4 with a little tobacco, vanilla, caramel and a touch ethyl maltol. Waiting a few days to steep before trying.

In the meantime, can anyone recommend a few "starter" recipes that people seem to enjoy a lot? I find myself gravitating towards tobacco blends, and don't care much for fruity blends...

Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Simple recipes if you like tobacco. Get some of the FlavourArt tobaccos. Mix them at 2%, and add 2% TFA cotton candy. Each tobacco flavor will taste different, but it will give you an idea of which ones you like. When you decide what ones you prefer, you can begin building on these simple tobacco mixtures, by adding other flavors, like caramel, vanilla, etc. Or, you can just vape them as is. I often vape 2%Latakia, 2%CottonCandy as is.

I just started DIYing myself about a month or so ago and although I did not start out with near as many flavors as you have I do have a fair assortment.

I too prefer the tobacco types and have had very good results with the 3 single flavors I picked up from VZ's new "Super Concentrated" line (http://www.vapingzone.com/DIY-Flavoring-Alcohol_Base/cid-59-1.html) Just mixing them at a straight 3% in a 50/50 blend @ 18mg & 24mg has been quite pleasing. The 3 VZ flavors I have are RealCig, Honey Flu Cured and Virginia Flu Cured.

I have played around a bit with some of the others that I have from TFA and FA but haven't managed anything I like as much as the VZ flavors, at least not yet but I will continue to mix and match as I have been enjoying it.

Thank you for the tobacco suggestions!

The tobacco flavors I have right now are TA and 3 Tobacco flavors from TFA (standard, premium, and blend) and D HILL from Tobacco Express.

It looks like Seedman's is also very popular, so looking into that and will definitely check out Latakia and other tobaccos from FA, as well as VZ- which I've never heard of :)

Cotton candy is a popular addition to Tobacco, what's up with that? Does it mellow out the flavor? I noticed my first batch has a bit of a licorice bite, but I haven't steeped it much yet.

I agree that if you are looking for decent tobaccos you should try Vaping Zones Super Concentrated alcohol based and Ecigexpress Tobacco Express line.

I have been DIYing for a long time and have not liked any of the tobacco flavors until now. These new concentrated tobacco flavors that are popping up with various vendors are closer to true tobacco flavor than any other that I have tried.

Good luck to you.

ETA- many people like the FlavourArt tobaccos so you may too.

Cotton Candy is a sweetener. It is essentially diluted ethyl maltol. IMO, it is a must have, for DIYers. You can make your own by getting some ethyl maltol crystals, and diluting 1/4 teaspoon in 10ml of either PG or PGA (pure grain alcohol).

Perfect! I do have ethyl maltol crystals, so will give that a shot on my second test batch here :)

Question- I see that PGA is often used to dilute, would you consider PGA a must for DIY? If so, would everclear work, or a strong Vodka instead?

I don't dilute juice much, but I always have Everclear on hand for cleaning my atomizers and mixing equipment, like syringes, needles, graduated tubes, etc. Some folks use vodka. It's cheaper. Some places you can't buy Everclear. Everclear is stronger than vodka, proof wise.

Question- would this mixture make a concentrate for DIY, or something one would vape straight?

That would be a mixture used for DIY. Just as an added sweetener. You will probably only need a few drops of EM in your mix. Start low and you can always add if you want your juice to be sweeter.

Think of it like adding liquid sweetener to a beverage only you would use drops instead of teaspoons.

I have a quick question about mixing. Just want to make sure I'm diluting the 60mg 70%pg/30%vg nicotine base right. Wanting to get nic level down to 18mg... I used android app to calculate this.
See picture

If it doesn't show its basically 3ml of nice, pg and vg, then 1ml of flavor... Would that be correct???

That would get you to 18mg/ml yes.

batch size (10)ml x final nic str (18)mg/ml = (180) / nic base str (60)mg/ml = (3)ml nic base

10 x 18 = 180 / 60 = 3
always good to ask a pro or 2.. lol.. but now to get the flavoring down pact.. might have to fire up my other ego-c and use that one for testing after the mix i made steeps for a little. I let it sit in some hot water for about 5 minutes and shook it up..

the mix isnt bad.. not sure about these Wizardlabs flavors.. but will keep trying to test the flavor concentrates.. you can smell them but tasting them is different with my ego-c ( probably my fault for not changing my atomizer out.

Sounds like you might be using too high a % on the flavoring. I know it doesn't make sense but using too much flavor ends up with lots of aroma and little to no flavor. There are a few things you can use once you get the % close that will make the flavor pop a bit, sweetener, vinegar, citric acid, tart & sour
