Well I'd like to get my girlfriend off cigs as well, and there are so many options it's overwhelming at times .. so I'm looking for some advice.

I'm just using my old mvp2 with a Nautilus mini tank and it's working great for now, but I'll be ordering something new soon. Just to have another mod, with at least sub ohm capabilities. Thinking pico at the moment.

Now, for my girlfriend.. She likes the pen style , and with there being so many available, just looking for something that would be a good starter. I'm not sure she'll want direct lung hits, so just a good kit, or mod/tank .. I see alot of the pen style setups are relatively cheap ( $25 and under ) and look to be pretty nice. With variable wattage, good battery life and some even able to run sub ohm tanks..

Here were a few I was looking at

Joyetech eGo AIO Starter Kit

Innokin Endura T18 Starter Kit

SMOK Vape Pen 22 Starter Kit

Smok Stick One Basic Starter Kit

SubVod Ultimate Beginner Starter Kit Bundle

Aspire K3 Quick Starter Kit (1200mAh Battery + 2ml Tank)

I know these may not be the best of the best, but just a few popular ones I've seen.

I have two Pico mods and LOVE them.

Another good choice is eVic VTC Mini.

depends. hard to go wrong with that style of vape
there are these HΩ Skillet (Hohm Skillet) 2200mAh Rechargeable Starter Kit (limited edition)
and when you use coupon code SKILLET it makes the price 6.99 for the vape pen set up. it's decent enough and comes with a 1 ohm coil for MTL and .5ohm coil for a restricted lung hit. At the price is worth a try and is she likes it she can upgrade later. and if not it was only 7 bucks lol

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a pico for sure as it will be my first new mod since my mvp2, so yea, it's been a while for me :) She just wants a smaller pen style.. I also remember hearing about the Tesla stealth being a pretty good beginner mod as well

Also, I'm a bit confused on sub ohming and direct lung inhale. Why is it you need a .4, .5 ohm coil and a mod that can run 50+ watts when I've seen pen style mods that are sub ohm, but don't get very high in voltage/watts..

Can you technically direct lung anything? Is there a certain coil impedance / watt number that you need to get for a DL inhale? Seems most people sub ohming are only around 40-50 watts regardless of how big or expensive a mod is..

Thinking pico at the moment.

That's a great choice for you. The Pico 75W is available right now for $21 with Free S/H (after using the discount code Turkey)...at Rocky Mountain Vapor online. That's a super price, especially with free S/H.

I have several pen/tube shaped mods and like them as well as the box mods & tanks I have (including the MVP2 & MVP20W, Coolfire IV, Pico, Nautilus Mini tanks, Protank Minis, Kayfun Lite Plus tanks, and other RBAs). I'm also a female, do not DL vape, and the following set-ups in tube/pen type set-ups work very well for me, too.

The KangerTech Subvod (1 you mentioned above) is a good set-up and comes with the TopTank Nano tank, which is a topfill, so it's easy to refill. Takes the SSOCC coils, which come in a variety of resistances, including subohm and/or above 1.0ohm. It also has an air control feature on the tank...which I really love. If color matters to her, she'll have a good choice of them, too.,

Other set-ups of pen/tube types I have and like are not for subohm vaping though, which is fine for me anyway. One set-up is the KangerTech TopTank Evod Kit - smaller battery capacity, smaller topfill tank, and takes less expensive coils. The Provari 2.5 and their Classic mods, with the Nautilus Mini or any of a variety of other tanks and clearomizers on them are terrific. The KangerTech Evod Mega Kit is also 1 of my favorites, and I have/use several of them, too. Comes with a 1900mAh battery and a matching 2.5mL tank.

The Innokin Endura Kits (another you mentioned) are also very well liked by many who've posted on the ECF. Innokin is a very good manufacturer, too, known for quality products.

Some kits/set-ups you mentioned in your list of "possibles" are only for sub-ohm vaping though, so I didn't buy any of them personally because of that reason.

And I have a Pico too but I didn't dig the Melo tank it comes with, I have a Protank 4 on mine.
Yea I've heard mixed reviews about the melo, and alot of people ( local vape shops ) suggest a baby beast tfv8 , or a cleito if the melo doesn't work for you.. like I said. So many options with everything, for a new person getting into it, it's overwhelming. Mods, tanks, batteries, coils, liquids and VG oPG levels

DTL or MTL really depends on airflow. technically you could go any ohm with it but the vape would suck
MTL has a very restricted air flow where you have to suck it into your mouth first then inhale like a cigarette.
DTL has a lot of air and you inhale it directly

If you tried a sub ohm coil at high watts on a MTL there wouldn't be enough air and you would get a burnt taste

If you tried a high ohm coil in DTL you would get very little flavor (aka muted flavor) because too much air for the vapor production

good flavor comes from the combination of vapor production for the coil and the amount of air.

I had information overload when I first started, and I'm still new to the game but I've found a few things that work great for me. I had an Atlantis Evo on my Pico and that worked good too but I wanted to get into building so I went for the protank. There's another member here that is always singing praise for the beast tank (I would butcher her name if I tried to spell it by memory! Went and checked, it's Cheallaigh) Whatever you go for it has to be 23mm or less to fit with the Pico battery cap.

It has to be the innokin endura. If you have any chance of getting her to stay off the cigarettes it would be with one of these.
You have to trust me when I say that this was voted by far the best starter kit of 2016 by many reviewers. And yes I have tried it and man what a good mtl vape. It was the only device that kept my brother (a die hard smoker) off the stinkies.
I would go as far as to say that it has a more satisfying vape than some of my more expensive mtl rta's.

You would not be wasting your money if you went for the innokin endura, trust me.

And ps
You don't need to go sub ohm on a mtl device 1 - 1.8ohms is perfect ( I think the endura is 1.5ohms)

Great info, thank you! I'll have reread all this when I get home. To much back and forth on the phone.

I guess I'll just ask the basic questions here since I still have a few people looking at the thread

My setup is a mvp2, and Nautilus mini 1.8 ohm tank

Liquid is 70%VG 30%PG 12 mg nicotine

Currently vaping at 4.4 volts ( usually 4.4-4.6 ) and choosing air hole 2-3 on the mini ( 1 -smallest 4- largest )

Just put in a new coil yesterday. So my questions are.

With just this standard 1.8 ohm tank , is there a formula ? Or just whatever works. Like if I'm at the full 5 volts, should I be on the largest hole, pulling hard, long pulls? Or visa versa , if I'm around 4.0-4.2 volts, should I be on the smallest hole, doing long easy pulls? I tried them all in different combinations, sometimes it vapes warmer, sometimes it's perfect, sometimes it is harsh.

That was one thing I didn't like about the e cigs when I started years ago.. it wasn't always consistent .. a cigarette always tasted the same, hit the same, etc, but there is so many different ways to smoke an ecig, I just gave up on it because it would be fine one hour, then the next I'd get harsh hits, sore throat, etc.

They need a class on these things lol

Another thing. I noticed when vaping, I get dry mouth at times, my throat gets sore, dry, scratchy, even tho I drink alot of water everyday. I know the PG dehydrates you, but it gives my throat the feeling like I just smoked 4 packs of cigs the day before.

Awesome. I'm guessing just the t18 endura kit? How does that prism tank compare to the Nautilus mini tank?

I have most of the devices mentioned here but What i can say is the vape pen 22 is very airy an is meant as a sub ohm direct lung starter kit. The k4 which i also have is direct lung too.
The ego aio is sort of a restricted dl but not quite mtl.
The endura is very good for a starter an is good for mtl, There is also the bigger version t22 endura which is inbetween a box an pen but still no variable wattage an is very simple.
I also have the evod pro but that is quite big for a pen style (So is the k4) and takes a removable battery.

Id go with the subvod or t18 or the t22 if you want Better battery life.
T22 is 2000mah, t18 is 1000mah an the subvod is 1300mah.

Hope this Helps, i own all exception the pico but its on my list

Really?? That's your personal opinion, but definitely not a fact. Countless numbers of people worldwide have used many many other kits and individual mods and tanks, from a variety of manufacturers...and have achieved the same goal.

There just flat out IS no 1 kit that someone has to use, or has to be bought for her...to "have any chance of getting her to stay off the cigarettes"!

So many choices out there. I really liked my eGo One Mega, with their CLR coil. I don't know if you can even purchase that anymore...I'm sure you can. Down side, the fire button spring only lasts about 8 to 9 months. I went through 7 of those suckers. So, I would suggest a Pico, eVic VTC mini, I've heard several people say that Smok Stick is nice. Good luck.
