My success story is short, but to the point. It's nothing spectacular, but hopefully will serve as a step in the right direction for someone else.
I had smoked for 14 years. I kept it hidden from most people, sneaking in a smoke whenever I could. I knew I was addicted, but just didn't want to do anything about it because I enjoyed it so much. I quit several times, but never for too long. Events that happened in my life would ease that last smoke, then something else would happen that would make that first one so much easier. I would always say to myself, "it's ok, just one pack and you'll stop again." I never did, it was always I'll quit tomorrow. On December 24th 2013 I decided I was done, for good this time. I had been talking to a friend who had smoked, and quit. I knew about those small e-cigs that looked like analogs, had tried them before and hated them. He told me of his story, and about vaping. Oh how things changed. I stopped by a local shop, which I had no idea existed, talked to the owner about what to buy, how to make it a success story and not another failure. After about an hour of talking batteries, juices and tanks, I was on my way with a Triple3 starter kit. Skipping ahead almost 2 months. I think it was the education I had received from my friend, he's my lifesaver, and the owner of that shop that helped get me to where I am today. I know it's not even been 2 months, but I just know deep down, I'm done with analogs. I gave that Triple3 kit back to my friend who encouraged me and showed me the basics and have since moved on to vv/vw mods, waiting on my 3rd to come in tomorrow. I'm still trying to find my place in what hardware is best for me, but I know vaping is it.
That's my story, hopefully it will encourage someone else.
A BIG thanks to ECF and it's community, this place is a goldmine of information to help those starting out.
