"It's not a fool proof quitting method" Oh really? It works for ME!

Since the day I started to vape, a fair amount of people tried to talk down of my vaping, saying it was "unhealthy, and not a proper and fool-proof way to quit.

Well... I ask them, "Okay, if this hasn't worked, even though I don't smoke anymore, what is?" ...They usually are rendered with silence.

But in all seriousness, why can't they call these a quitting method?

Because you're not.

I'm convinced that many people are opposed, not to smoking, but to the idea of smoking. Put frankly, drug use for recreational purposes is stigmatized in Western culture for the most part. It's seen as selfish (selfishness is ANOTHER stigma in Western culture, damn it!) and indicative of a weak person. Those social mores affect people's reaction.

"I am no longer inhaling harmful toxins from the habitual inhalation of combusted plant material." is not nearly as important to those blinded by drug stigma as "I am choosing to ingest a chemical substance for pleasure".

Neither industry wants to view it as a quitting method.

Tobacco doesn't want you to think it works ... cutting into their profits.
All the vape vendors want you to think of it as a replacement method so you buy juice and attys from them the rest of your life.

If it were a quitting method like gum or patch you would stop using it when successful ... no money to be made there.

This is argumentative. I can see why you think it is smoking. Its a culture. With a cigarette you inhale smoke. On the other hand, with a vape you inhale vapor. Its two phenomenon entirely. Vapor and smoke. It is not the same thing. If you are thinking of culture, yes it is still smoking. But scientifically, there must be a term to make the distinction between those two. It is not there yet.

Several people I work with have tried vaping and they decided it wasn't for them. Yesterday, at a Thanksgiving family gathering, several smoking siblings who have tried mine reaffirmed that it didn't work for them.

Vaping isn't for everyone, sad but true. As for myself, I have no immediate plans to quit vaping. But, I'm thrilled to not be smoking cigarettes after more than 35 years of doing so.
I've switched to a less harmful (and more pleasant) way to feed my addiction. :) That was 1/15/2010 ... more than ten months ago.
