I got my 501 starter kit last night from electronicstix.com, which comes with two e-cigs and five pre-filled cartridges. I didn't charge them or anything initially, just followed the directions and started to vape (although I took only about 15 puffs from each so far - I only smoke about 8-12 analogs per day normally so I am not a heavy smoker). Here are my questions:

-I am currently charging one of the batteries today. When the light turns green on the charger, I assume it is fully charged. How long will the battery generally last on the 501?

-I have been trying to do research on ecigs and keep reading how bad nicotine is for you, that you shouldn't touch it,that it can even kill you from overdose(!), etc. This is making me paranoid, especially as there seems to be some leakage of the juice from where the cartridge goes into the atomizer with both of my ecigs. I put it together following the instructions. Am I doing something wrong? How bad is it to get the juice on your hands? (I keep washing my hands like crazy...)

-I also bought some vanilla flavored e liquid (30 ml). Do I just use that to top off the cartridge that is already in there when that runs out? Also, how do I know when the cartridge is out - just from lack of vapor?

-I would like to eventually wean myself off the nicotine completely, but I understand the liquids without nicotine do not give any throat hit. Is there any way to still get at least a mild throat hit without nicotine?

Thank you so much!!

Welcome Teenerz, I wouldn't worry about the liquid so much. The dangerous nicotine is the pure stuff. e-liquid is maybe 3% nicotine. so a few drops won't hurt you. It is still a toxic substance so definitely keep it away from children and pets though. As for overdose, you'll get sick to your stomach and know to stop before any lethal dose.
With the 510 you can use a paperclip to pop off the end of the cart and use a paper towel to soak up the juice that collects there and keep most from getting to your mouth.
But even a few drops on the tongue is nothing to worry about.
For more info on nicotine check out the "health" section.

Throat hits with no nicotine are non-existant in supplier liquids, although a few forumers (Sun Vaporer) found a way to mix liquid with no nicotine and some throat hit.

Don't worry about that stuff getting on your hands. Even with 36mg, i've had it drip on my fingers before and nothing happened. Just don't get it in your mouth or eyes, it tastes nasty =[

The juice leaking is a common problem for 510's.

Sorry I meant the 510! LOL (don't know how to edit my first post)

Don't worry about it! It is called the 501 so often that is almost seems like an unofficial name for it! Theres the 901, the 801, the 401... and the 510? ;)

I can't find answers to some of my other questions in the 510 section (about the juice leaking, getting it on your hands and throat hits with no nicotine) - I'll keep searching...

It depends on how paranoid you are, IMO. Some people will definately tell you to avoid getting on your skin, but sometimes you can't avoid getting it in your mouth from the end of the cart! I have even gotten in my eye once... and I can still see fine out of my other eye... just kidding, only burned for a while. I don't think it is a big deal, just don't bathe in it and keep it away from kids and animals! :)

i've always had nicotine on my tongue and fingers since starting vaping with a 4081, which you might as well be drinking the stuff (well not really, but those stubby carts LEAK)..

I will say that when i first started vaping, if i got nico juice on my tongue, no big deal, even swallowed it, then would wonder why i had a headache the rest of the day.

Now if i accidentally get that stuff outside the cart insert and it gets in my tongue, i rinse my mouth out with water (immediately b/c apparently the nicotine can absorb quick).. Haven't had a headache since.

Thank you so much for your responses everyone. I was just getting really paranoid about getting any of the juice on me after some of the stuff I read - it was making me second guess my decision to get the ecig! I got some on my hands before, washed them like crazy, then petted my dog and immediately proceeded to worry that I hadn't washed my hands enough to be petting him (even though I washed them for like 5 mins!). I feel better now after reading your responses. :)

No worries at all, it is kinda like the patch if you get it on your skin, you might vape a little less. If it is a kind you really like you won't even notice, the sweet ones just make you smell better. I keep a damp paper towel with me at home and just wipe off the excess when filling or fiddling. I don't feel it necessary to wash my hands except the usual times in a day. You will learn quickly not to spill or get it on you just by habit of use, kinda like smoking and not burning yourself. I actually like the smell on my hands of the sweet ones but if I get it in my mouth I just wipe it of my tounge and go on. Coke, Dr Pepper boils it out of your mouth after heavy vaping so you can start again as soon as possible.

I do the same -- no problems at all, and I am rather clumsy with the liquid and always manage to spill som.

I am also having much better experience with 510 of not getting liquid in my mouth than with other models. The 510 has a reservoir in the mouthpiece that seems to collect most leftover liquid. I just open up the tip every other day and wipe any liquid out of it.
