I am having issues with the wicking of the 801 cartridge. When I install the cartridge the atomizer touches the wick and pushes it down into the cartridge. I will get several good vapes out of it until the top half of the wick looks drained and the bottom half looks saturated. I have to take the cartridge out, pull the wick back up with tweezers and then tap it a few times on something to get the full wick saturated again before putting it back into the atomizer. Is this normal?
I would normally smoke a pack of ultra lights a day which is about 2.2 mg a day absorbed. How much gets absorbed by vaping? I would like to somehow measure my nicotine content and I am not sure how to go about doing that. I have a 10ml eliquid dropper bottle that is labeled 18mg is the whole bottle 18mg worth of nicotine? If I saturate my 801 blank cartridge roughly how much nicotine content is in there? Basically I don’t want to increase my nicotine content but I’m not sure how to regulate the liquid.

Good first questions. I will take a stab at answering them for you.

What you describe is normal. After a half dozen or so draws, vapor tails off because the cartridge stuffing is getting dry. At that point, nost everyone will drip a few drops of e-liquid on the stuffing and continue to vape. Sometimes you can push the stuffing all the way down to pick up some fluid near the mouthpiece. Then pull it back up level with the cart opening.

You never get all the fluid to wick out of a cartridge, so store them in a baggie or plastic container with a lid, When you have collected many used cartridges, you can squeeze the stuffings in a large diameter syringe and save the juice for re-use or emergencies.

No one really knows.

As a general guideline, figure your intake based on milliliters and drops. Approximately 20 drops = 1 milliliter.

Your bottle of liquid contains 18mg of nicotine per ml, so the entire bottle would have 180 mg of nicotine. I have heard that vapers average between 1-3 ml of liquid per day.
Since we do not really know how accurate the nicotine concentrations are or how much we actually absorb while vaping, trust your body to let you know if you are overdoing it.

I just got my 801 last week and I love it also. I choose the 12 mg strength and found them to be pretty good although I did over do it a couple of times and got pretty jittery for awhile. a few weeks should be enough to get into the groove you think? I also ordered some juice from Johnson Creek at the same time I ordered my 801 but still has not arrived. The last cartridge dried out 2 days ago so while waiting I washed out the cartridges by taking out the stuffing and drying them on paper towels, carefully refolding them and stuffing them back in with tweezers. I rinsed the atomizer with water and used compressed air to dry it out. When the juice arrives I'll have to learn how to fill them. There's a couple of videos on how to do that and it seems pretty easy. The idea as far as I can tell is to get in as much as possible and have it wick onto the vaporizer and keep it wet until it's all used up.

Go to the local feed store and get some 16-18ga needles and syringes. They only cost 25 cents. With the 801 they are invaluable for filling the carts. Plus you can pull back on it if you overfill.

After you make sure that your atomizer is COMPLETELY dry, Make sure you put a couple of drops in the atomizer to prime it.

Also, how I refill my pen carts is I put 15 drops of liquid, then stuff the cart with the filler by twisting the filler down by hand, then push it down into the juice with a paper clip, then lift the filler up to the top of the cart with said paper clip, then top off with 5 more drops.

The only tool is use is the paper clip, but I do have one end bent so it pushes the filler and use the other end straight so I can pick up the filler better.

But that's just me, and how I do it. No video necessary.

I ordered a 801 from My vapor store thinking it was an upgrade from my 901 and I'm so dissapointed with the consistency of the 801, I take 5 or 6 drags and the vapor dies out:confused: That's with a full juicy cartrige. Tried different atomizers and batts, still the same, it just wont wick well. Is this what the 801 supposed to be like? If it is then I wasted my money.

I've had that problem with a couple of my carts, and the issue seems to be the stuffing. Some of the factory carts seem to be grossly overstuffed and don't want to wick properly.
I've also found that filling my carts the night before seems to help the wicking process. Not sure why, unless it allows the juice to even out through the fibers.

That sounds like normal operation to me. The problem is not that the 801 does not wick well, the problem is that it wicks very well. The penstyle happens to be more juice-hungry than smaller devices. You will need to top off your cartridges more often with an 801.

Cartridge stuffing is an inexact science; whether produced in a factory or re-stuffed by us. Experiment with amounts and types of materials to find what works best for you.

We have new 801's from the same source. Preliminary research indicates around 90 puffs per milliliter using newly filled cartridges. This is when taking a few puffs at the time and then parking the cig standing up til next time. You'll need to remove the cartridge several times per fill and fluff the stuffing back up to flush with the top so it can wick more fluid from the tip end.

Maybe a milliliter is a tad too much to load per fill if you park it standing up right away. I flooded my atomizer yesterday doing that. It quit vaping until I drained 0.15 ml out of it.
