Got newbie questions about my (new) gear

I am a new convert to e-cigs, and have just received delivery of my first starter kit. I had been using the cigarette look-alikes for a couple of weeks.

I did some research (mostly on this site), and decided to get an EgoTwist Ultra kit. It comes with two batteries, and two CE4 tanks, plus charger, and carry case.

I also got this watermelon/wintergreen flavor liquid - cool. Hey, if I'm not smoking, why do I need tobacco taste, right?

So, I have a question about the tank - is it OK if I lay the thing down (sideways) ? How about if it is upside down? Will it leak? If it is imperative to keep the getup upright, what do you guys/gals use to help keep it that way while out and about? Or maybe I am just worried about a non-issue, and these things just don't normally leak at all?

Also, since I got something with variable voltage, what voltage should I be using? The higher the better? (I suspect it is not quite as simple and straightforward as that, though)

try to keep it up right, but you should be fine with no leaks if it tipped on the side those clearomizers are decent
start on low volts (3.2ish) and work your way up till you find that sweet spot (3.8-4.2 prob avg)

You should be fine to lay it on it's side. You don't need to keep it upright all the time. Usually, with clearos, you use a method of dip and swirl to keep the wicks wet. People carry them to and fro in cases where they lay down all the time.

The voltage depends on what ohm your clearomizers are and what your preference is. Here is a chart that provides guidance for safety.

I'm on ViVi Novas now and have learned how to prevent leaking, but I still stand them up a lot of the time, because I got the "stands" before I learned how to prevent leaking.

What I did was go to Goodwill and look in their knick-nack section for heavy cups or small vases with really really thick heavy bottoms.

I ended up with a glass tumbler that looks like it was made from the bottom of a wine bottle or something, which I use indoors, and a cranberry vase only a little bigger than a coffee cup, with a small top (2 mods max capacity) and a VERY heavy glass bottom, almost 3/4 inch, for the front porch. They were like $1-$3 each. They will hold top-heavy Novas on top of a tall fatt batt and also my Lavatube, with no danger of tipping over.

And easy to grab the vape. Easy to FIND my vape!

The downside: gotta tip and swirl more if they've been standing overnight.

Another trick for when I do lay them down: I got Blaster tiltable drip tips. I point the tip towards the button, which is a HUGE help on a kGo because the buttons are hard to find, and when I lay my vape down on a table, the bent tip stops it from rolling off.

How long do they typically last? I think it is safe to assume they do not last forever. (Note to self: stop messing around on internet forums, and do research for CE4 maintenance tips)

You just never know how long those CE4's will last. An atty can be DOA, last an hour, a day, a week, a month, or more. It's from China, with questionable QC. Get spares.

Unless they've changed alot since I last used them, clearomizers can last 2-4 weeks of regular use. They, like other juice carrying devices, have an ohm rating (or resistance rating) which determines what voltage range they perform best with. Either the website will list this in the product description, or it may be on the box they were delivered in (not likely).

Be aware that some flavors can crack or melt the clear plastic of a clearomizer. These are are generally the cinnamon or citrus flavors, but there are many more. If you plan on using these flavors, you must use a cartomizer or a pyrex cartotank.

Lots of good info given here so far. Id like to add that clearo's are not the only option you have i prefer using cartomizers myself, you have to top them off more but they give a good vape and will never leak if you lay them down. To me there great for when your out and about. After you get used to your new e-cig routine you will probably start looking into more advanced systems, possibly looking toward tank systems like the "J-Tank" or maybe even rebuildable atomizers/rebuildable tank systems such as the AGA-T (cheap but good RBA) or even more expensive setups. Please do not get discouraged by the overwhelming information you may receive by reading these forums, just take it slow and try 1 thing at a time and find your sweet spot! Enjoy your choice of becoming a healthier person and stick with it, i assure you its worth the journey!
