The cotton and bottles from sally beauty supply. And the snippers from home depot. And it also came with small needle nose good for pinching coils. And the micro torch I got from my tool dealer. I overpaid for that but that's the price of convenience. BTW the cotton and bottles are awesome for the price!

Divrr, Why hesitate to torch the Kanthal? I found that torching new coils reduces the new coil taste to about 1/4 tank instead of 1 full tank at least of new coil taste.

Been torching new coils ever since, tell me I'm not doing something wrong or considered dangerous.

OP: Nice stash of new stuff.

Well tbh, I and many others torched coils to get them tight, and like you said, maybe reduce the metal taste. after reading up on the subject, I don't torch any more. I hate really to bring certain things up, because these studies are not things that are really proven but they are out there and at least read for yourself. I even do my dry burning on a much lower level then what I used to. I use to torch the wire first, then make a coil and torch again and once mounted, I would torch again. And dry burning, I used to get that puppy red cherry hot . Honestly now I don't need to torch because I can make a super tight coil to begin with and after mounting I will dry burn slightly to maybe get rid of machine oils but I do it at like 10 watts and not too long. Some agree with me while some don't, but studies have found that over heating can change the properties of the wire creating a new element or something (maybe that's not the technical explanation ) which if it does it forms on the metal which then could be potentially harmful. Now most say " well I have been smoking for 30 years , so I'm not going to worry about something that may or may not be true" well I kind of agree with that myself, but it is maybe a good idea to at least read up on it and make your own decision. There are threads I believe in the coil section and a Google search can link you to it, if you are interested I can post a link. I think in the end your 100 percent fine to torch , but I do think that if done excessively, and to extremes, it is not.

Yes, I did read a lot about the dry burning and torching coils. I really thought most of that applied to wires specific to temp control. I am with you though, no need to add any extra variables to the equation. What I do is to just get them red once, maybe on the heat for 5 to 10 seconds. I have no need to do it again after install since I started using RTA's with V-Style decks. I don't mangle perfectly wound coils on the install anymore! lol

I will also do a quick dry burn to re-wick as well. I just don't know a better way to get the coils clean.

this is about kanthal, not temp control wires. like I mentioned before, even torching the hell out of these wires, I believe vaping is far far better then smoking and am no way saying this is dangerous but I do try keeping up on potential things and think its important to, and from there have your own thoughts. dr. farsalinos has been testing e cigs for a long time and is more or less funded by us, I believe him to be an honest researcher and is an ecig advocate. recently his readings of certain research states he believes that e cigs are 95% safer then cigarettes! anyways he did do studies on the dry burning of kanthal which is embedded within this link, so read this page and then click on the embedded link "burning dry" within. A chemist’s advice: Don’t Dry-Burn your coil
