Just to let everyone know we are switching from a VPS server to a Dedicated one that has alot of MUSCLE!

What this means is we now have much faster processing (6 threaded cores), 12 GIGS of dedicated RAM and the latest hardware. This was significantly higher in cost but we are striving to make sure everyone has a frustration-free experience shopping at GotVapes.com. I do think that some of the problems that were occuring with payments in December were related to this as we have almost tripled and quadrupled traffic from about a year ago according to our graphs.

A dedicated server is just that - you do not share CPU and ram with any other sites. VPS is called a Virtual Private Server that simulates a dedicated server as the software segments much of the system as though it is running on its own computer (this it is called 'virtual' private). A dedicated server is ONE computer per Domain. Our upgrade not only gives us that but gives us 100% of CPU time on the computer and 5-6x's the amount of RAM always available to our kind and wonderful customers at GotVapes.com : )

Also we are housed in the most critically acclaimed hosting provider in the world. They were carefully chosen from the day we opened and we can say we have never had any downtime. For security reasons we are not revealing any of that information but rest assured they are the creme de la creme in the business, located in the USA.

By the way the transition will occur starting soemtime today. We expect no downtime from the transition but if there is they will schedule it for the wee hours of the morning when all of Mama's Monkies are fast asleep.

Actually... moving to different servers will also of course require a new IP address since it is a different computer. This means that all DNS servers that are downstream will also need to have their DNS information updated to reflect the new IP address... This change isn't immediate so for a short time, usually less than a day but in some instances it can take up to 3 days for the new IP address to propagate to all of the DNS servers around the world.

The users computers also have a DNS cache which may need to updated in certain cases ( they call it flushing the cache btw ).... On Windows based computers it is a simple matter of opening a command prompt and typing in "ipconfig /flushdns" .... To open a command prompt simply type "cmd" ( no quotes ) on the run line in the Start Menu... Please note that Vista, Win7 and Win8 users will likely need to elevate the command to admin by right clicking on the command prompt and selecting "Run as Administrator"

This geeky moment brought to you by redsock... :D

Good point redsock! So just in case site doesn't come up for a few hours be aware of this. I am not sure though that our provider doesn't have a system where they will auto forward in house, DNS requests so we may not see that...not sure.

Yeah, it is easy enough to post a meta refresh or similar technique on the original server... some users security software may detect it as a potential threat due to the redirection but is the worst that can happen and most security softwares don't detect redirects so it is almost a non issue
