We had a new vape shop open. There are a lot of places in our town that sell e-cigs and e-liquid but this is our first 'real' vape shop. Anyway I went the other day and the owner was visiting with me while I was testing their flavors. I was trying out the ones that he said was their brand they make themselves. It was good but very mild. I prefer more flavor so I asked if they ever gave extra flavor shots. He asked what did I mean I told him one of the online stores I shopped at would add extra flavor. He said no because it was premixed. ???? He had just told me they made these juices so how can it be premixed? He also said it would mess up their PG/VG ratio. Am I confused about how making your own juices works or is this guy full of it?

Added: If using premixed is standard for calling e-liquid your own brand that's one thing if it's not I'm not comfortable shopping in a place that isn't upfront and honest.

I am thinking that their base is premixed. If they advertise a certain ratio, they feel themselves obligated to stay with that EXACT ratio. Adding extra flavor would change it slightly, as well as nic content in that base. I don't think they understand that flavor counts more than exact proportion of nic/vg/pg. Some OCD thinking there.

....... or is this guy full of it?

My guess is he's full of it. If they actually mixed their own juices he could easily add more flavor and just let you know what the final NIC level is or adjust the mix so as to maintain the NIC level. If anything I would say they buy premixed juices in quantity and load bottles and slap a label on them.

Just my guess though ;)

That was my guess as well. I think the new (read: only in it for the fad) B&M in my town does the exact same thing.

Many B&M's premix their e-liquids in bulk and then bottle from the premix; many online vendors do the same. Some prefer to always mix fresh while others mix in batches. There's really no right or wrong way to go about it, it just depends on their preference and business model. With steeping becoming a more common topic and with more liquids needing it, B&M's most likely would prefer to avoid the subject and simply offer a product that is more consistent. It's less of a "headache" for them as many who do not frequent this forum (or others) are not as likely to know a great deal about steeping or the benefits.

While B&M's should be educating their customers, some prefer to take the road less traveled and simply stick to sales instead of explanations. It happens unfortunately. A B&M refusing to modify their e-liquid does not mean they're someone you should avoid by any means. They may simply prefer to offer a single product with limited options instead of a single product with multiple.

I'm thinking that premixed in this case means that they mix larger amounts of a flavor at a certain nic level and dispense into small bottles for sale. In that case, it would throw off the nic percentage when more flavor is added. They could add flavor shots to the next highest nic level and hope for the best after dilution. There are vape shops who mix juice one bottle at a time, and there are online vendors that let you mix and match PG/VG and Nic percentage when you order as well as add flavor shots.

You'd need to find a vendor who mixes one bottle at a time as customers place orders. There are many of those.
