Ok so I build a coil just like you said. 6 wraps 28 gauge, it came out to 1.1 ohms. Dripped some on it and cranked it up to 4.8 and the taste was MUCH better! No dry hit flavor just a soft grape flavor. Still not that in your face flavor but I've been working on this problem since 5 so I may have fried my taste buds a bit.

Through PM I think you are right about thr cotton. When I rebuild a dual coil kanger head I rebuild ot as a single coil with a piece of cotton on top to take up room in the slot and as a flavor wick. I think it was to much and was choking it out.

I put some in a regular Protank 2 with a regular single coil atty and it was MUCH tastier. I still think my tongue is fried as it was real faint but I can tell it tastes better all around.

Thanks for troubleshooting this wiyh me Kent!! You're the best!!!

Awesome - progress is made.

Mind you, I am NOT the best microcoil builder on the planet, but the first thing I noticed on your coil is that there is some separation between the coils. One thing that will help is to leave a little slack in the leads when you attach them to the posts - then, with your "bit" still in the coil (I use a blunt tip syringe, but some people use drill bits, etc... I "pinch down" on the lead that rolls OVER the bit, and "lift up" on the lead that rolls under the bit. This serves to "round" that final leg around the drill bit and create a break point so you don't get hot legs.

Finally, *briefly* fire that coil (after you test it for safety, obviously) and gently squeeze it with a pair of tweezers to ensure that it's firing "from the center, outwards". The way the coil is right now, it looks like it might fire unevenly. (IE, not from the center out)

Finally, you are spot on - especially with liquid higher in PG (like Grape Ape, which is 65/35)... you can expect the cotton to nearly DOUBLE in size when it's saturated. Too much cotton will "choke the wick" ... the end result is a "dry hit" caused by the coil burning off the liquid at the entry point and not allowing the center of the wick to get saturated. In your picture, it still looks like too much cotton to me. Less is definitely more when it comes to cotton wicks - when you wet the wick with liquid it will swell like crazy - make sure the cotton "moves freely" through the microcoil and you'll be where you want to be, I believe.

Glad I could help!!

Side note - I never found a flavor wick needed in Protank microcoil rebuilds. It'll just mute the flavor.

Well with the dual coil Kanger attys the slot for the coil is pretty deep. I've found that if I don't put a small flavor wick in there to take up space there's a gap between the coil and the rubber grommet and I get a little flooding.

A little flooding. I would say that would cause all the juice to flow out in no time. Never did build on a dual coil. I guess it is not possible to rebuild it into a dual coli using the entire gap?

Whenever I am dickering around with builds and a juice that I am desperately trying to get the full experience, I end up frying my juice buds.
I would say 90% of my issues is starting out with the wrong build. Then do to trying to get the wrong build working and over vaping, I end up losing any sense of taste.

I migrated off the Protank Platform after the Protank 2, so I can't speak to the dual coil heads. Good call.

I just placed my order for Grape Ape. I have a feeling I will like it as much as I like Galaxy - which I absolutely adore !!

I'd be curious to hear how it stacks up!! Can't wait to read the review! (thank you kindly for the order! <3)
