Hi people...New member here. Have recently switched from cigarettes to vaping (after smoking for over 50 years). My cat-scan in February showed clean lungs, but I want to
get rid of my nicotine intake. Thought I'd first switch to vaping, then lower my nicotine
in ever-smaller percentages. I figure this project may take a year or so.

Anyway, this is my purpose for joining a forum. Just the chance I may gain some ideas
and/or suggestions in doing so.

Hello and welcome to the ECF community. I would recommend putting lowering nic on the back burner for now. Your body will tell you when it's time to lower nic. When you get the signals lower just a mg or two at a time. It's much less stressful this way, also be prepared for chain vaping for a bit until your body acclimates to the lower nic mg.

I quit along with my husband and his sister. We were all heavy smokers and started with 24 mg juice, but quickly - within a month or two - dropped to 18 mg.

Because part of the habit is the habit itself, we found we could not vape as much as we needed with that much nic.

You’ll know if it’s time to drop down because you’ll feel a bit sick - there are threads about that on the forum, so you can read up on the symptoms.

The key is to find the nic level that is high enough to kill your cravings but low enough for you to vape as you wish.

And I know someone who quit vaping altogether, and a couple who got to zero nic and still vape. For me, I don’t think that’s going to happen, and it’s not my goal. I got down to 3 mg and relapsed. I never quit vaping, and I never went back to heavy smoking, but it did learn me a lesson, that that’s not enough for me and better more nic and no smokes, lol.

I think you’re right in thinking this could take some time, and glad you’re not going to rush it.

Good luck on your journey.

Hi welcome and I hope you enjoy your time with us. Well done in making the switch; as others have said don't be in too much of a hurry or worry too much about getting the nicotine strength down immediately.

Like you I smoked for 50+ years; my sytem ran on a mixture of nicotine and caffeine from strong tea for most of my life. I've been vaping for three and a half years; I quit tobacco with 18 strength liquid and I'm still quite happily using that in a plus 1 Ohm coil at low voltage.

Do what you find works for you!
