Hello everyone,

I found this site today after I received my 510 Redux ego kit in the mail. My username was taken, which is always odd, so I figured out I had signed up back in 2010!

Sooo.. Before receiving this kit, my first 'real' kit, I had been using a completely custom one that I had built after trying the first iteration of eCigs. It relies on a large battery and wires and junk. So you can imagine how happy I am to be mobile with my vaping, and not having to worry so much about spilling and what-not.

But yeah, I'm new. Posting my first post. Saying hello. Hello. :)

It wouldn't be the worse I've seen, last time I recall a "Duct tape and paper clip set up" involved a car battery, some kind of jumper cables and speaker wire..I didn't ask beyond that in truth as I was afraid of the answer. Thankfully that person settled on a VAMO and clearomizer before leaving the shop.

Okay, here we go.

Keep in mind this iteration is about 2 years old (the cartomizer and juice being the only new things), so with the flash and all the detail it looks absolutely disgusting. I had no idea.

It is a very basic setup. The tank is empty in the pics, but the idea is that there's about 1/4in of juice in the tank that keeps the cartomizer submersed. The button sends the voltage through and insane vaping occurs.

It's a 5000mAh 8.4v battery. As you can imagine, on a fresh charge I have to barely tap the button a couple times for a crazy vape. As the battery wears down I can push the button more than a split second. Also, as I'm sure you can imagine, the cartomizer burns up after approximately 2 weeks of use.

But yeah, this has been my setup for the past couple of years.

And finally, the much too large and powerful rechargeable battery pack

Enjoy!

Well that made me super amused, I especially love the perpendicular battery at the end and the liberal use of epoxy! Seriously, thanks for sharing that.

You still have a few more newbie posts to get out of the way, so what's the story behind your mad-max setup that led you to make it? I hope you never left home with it, as *I* would freak out if I saw that coming out of someone's backpack smoking. :p

lol I'm glad you liked it. I no longer have the first iteration, I think this was 3.0 that I used for a couple of years.

The story is pretty simple. I bought one of the first eCigs available on the market, which were horrible. I thought to myself, why not submerge the cart in liquid and give it more battery power? So iteration one was a clear box I made and had a 4 x AA battery pack attached. That worked very well, but even buying rechargeable batteries it was getting old charging the batteries over and over.

Sooooo... Fast forward another model or two and you see me sporting a battery pack from an old RC car. As you can imagine, I went through a great many carts before I mastered the art of vaping off it. It didn't take too long to get real good at tapping that button because of all the soldering I had to do each time I burned a cart.

And no, I never went mobile with it. I've been using it while at home and smoking while away. I'm now ready to kick the smoking completely since I finally got myself a kit. So far so good, too. I like it. Sure I'm not getting the insane plumes of smoke that I was before, but this is more than enough for me.

Yes I do realize how ridiculous my Frankenstein setup ended up being. Looking at it objectively in this thread, I imagine more than a few folks think I'm crazy. :)

Anyway, that's the story. I got better and better building the tank and getting the cart in the right position and over time I increased the battery power until the craziness you see in this thread.

to ecf Acidon. So glad to have you here. I don't exactly know what all I am looking at but if it worked for you, that's all that matters. So have you been vaping since 2010? Look forward to reading more about you. Have fun and happy vaping.

Yep, I've been vaping since 2010. When I first learned of eCigs I was pretty excited.

I know that thing I made looks weird, but it got me from smoking 1.5 packs a day to 6-8 cigs a day. Now I'm hoping to make the stinkies disappear for good. I feel ready. :)

Well for what it's worth, it's my favorite 1st 5 posts in awhile and made my inner geek smile. I'd be interested to see what you'd come up with as a homemade dripper. ;)

You are now over 5 posts, and are set loose upon the forums!
