After a lot of research and asking questions about several specific mods on this forum I've narrowed down my mod choices to the original non variable voltage gripper or the itaste MVP. I like the smaller form factor of the gripper. It seems to be the perfect size to slip in my front pocket. On the other hand the MVP is variable voltage and has a much longer battery life. I've never used variable voltage so I don't know how much I would use it, but the longer battery life would be great. I don't think the MVP would fit in a pocket very well.

So what would you buy?

If you haven't tried VV I would highly recommend it. I just recently got into it and can really tell a difference with a lot of my juices! From what I have seen the MVP is actually quite small, though "small" is subjective depending on who you talk to. Personally I would go with anything that has VV even as an option over something that doesn't any day of the week. Just my :2c:

The MVP fits nicely into a pocket... depending on what you have attach to it, of course. But it is fairly small, fits nicely in one's hand and can easily fit into a pocket. It is a solidly built device, has a 2600 mAh battery which is about 2 1/2 days of charge, can be used as a passthru and can charge your phone or other portable electronic device.

The MVP is of metal construction, whereas the Gripper is plastic.

What type of heads (or toppers) are you planning on using with the devices?

It totally depends on what you want or need. The two listed are completely different devices. I won't list the differences as you said you've done your research, but they are so different, I am slightly surprised you're come to the conclusion it's one or the other. Is it the whole box-mod or small form factor that is the most important to you?

I like everything about the MVP except the size. Once I put any kind of clearo or tank on it it seems as if it will be too long to just slip into my pocket and go. Other than the size every thing looks perfect for me. How do you that own the device carry it with a tank or clearo attached, pocket, lanyard, pouch? If there an inconspicuous way to carry it my decision would be the MVP in a heartbeat.

The gripper on the other hand has only the size going for it. Small convenient to carry with decent performance.

I carry a Vamo with a vivi nova tank on it in my dress pants, so stealthy I am not - but I take your point. The gripper is small but as jefsview said, it's plastic (and has had some mixed reviews about build quality). It's in my shopping cart right now to buy but only because I want something like that to have on hand, but it won't be my go to device because an 18350 won't last me all day and I don't want to carry extra batteries. It's also in my cart because it's $15 and I feel it's a low price to give me another option.

The MVP, one of my co-workers just picked one up, it's sturdy, but to me, really not that big at all. Even with a mini nova that he has on it, he can easily slip it into his front jeans or dress pant pocket. It's a little on the heavier side compared to the gripper, but nothing like a vamo. Of course you already know about all the features it has, so honestly, I would recommend this. You can always pick up a gripper when you have a spare $15.

Is there a local B&M you can go to? a lot of the them carry the MVP and you'll be able to test it out in store. I don't recommend you buy from them unless you get an awesome deal as you can get them for under $50 from Fasttech.

Edit - Sorry, just checked, it's $19.40 for the Gripper from Gotvapes.

I have the mechanical Gripper, and the variable voltage Gripper, too. I may also be getting an MVP soon as a result of winning a prize drawing.

The mechanical Gripper is only $16, with the necessary Gripper extension for an additional $4 in order to use a tank on it. Granted you will also need to purchase at least a couple of 18350 batteries for it and an appropriate charger for them. I tend to use mine only in specific situations (stealth vaping at the cinema). The battery it uses will only last approximately 7 - 10 hours of use depending upon your vaping habits, but the batteries are small and carrying a spare should be no issue.

The VV Gripper is $50 at Mad Vapes. It will have the same features as the MVP in a smaller package that is very pocket worthy, but is made of impact resistant plastic with a rubberized coating and can not charge a cell phone (if that's important to you). It uses an 19650 IMR battery which should last you all day. It has both a built-in voltage and atomizer meter.

Not sure of the price you'll need to pay for the MVP, but I can safely say that it is a much sturdier PV with a metal body and would be a better long term value. Depending upon the size of your pockets, seems like you should be able to carry one there, even if you need to remove whatever tank you may be using on it. It also has a built-in voltage and atomizer meter, if I'm not mistaken. The only downside that I see with the MVP is the built-in rechargeable battery can not be replaced. No one knows yet how long that battery will last.

Personally, I don't care very much for Smoktech as a company. I might order something cheap on a lark sometimes, but I usually only give a 50/50 shot if it will actually work like it says it is supposed to. They are good with their pricing, but to me, it come at the price of quality. I don't own a gripper, and i don't feel that it is a device that would be worthy of investing in li-on batteries and a charger for.

I have to grown to enjoy my MVP. Between classes and work right now, sometimes I have 12 hour days in which I'm out. Right now my MVP is still on green for the charge. The battery life is very nice. However, with a protank topping it, the MVP seems pretty massive. I can still fit it in a pocket, but I don't know how comfortable I'd feel taking it all day without a back pack to throw it into sometimes.

I guess my answer to you would be a yes and no. Get the gripper if you have batteries and another device with VV. It's not that much of an investment then, so it will just be another device to your collection. Get the MVP if you don't already have batteries and a charger. The battery life and the VV are very nice features. Again, the Gripper is not something I would ever feel like making the investment of batteries and a charger would be a worthwhile endeavor for.

Well you all made up my mind for me. I'm getting both! The ego batteries that I am currently using are starting to hold less of a charge for me so I knew I had to get something quick. The Gripper from Madvapes will take care of that for me and a couple of weeks saving from the no cig fund ($3.50 put away each day) and I will be able to pick up and MVP from Fasttech.

Thanks for all the comments now it's just waiting on the mail.

i have both, tho i don't use either much any more (since getting a REO), but i'd never think of getting just one or the other--they excel at completely different things.

the MVP's long battery life (not to mention the ability to charge yr phone) is very comforting for situations that need it. for me, it would be big to carry around, but as a VV mod, i'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10.

the $16 mech gripper, however, is almost a 10! Why? Not because it is better than the MVP, but because it aspired to be
a) cheap
b) stealthy
c) easily pocketable

and it meets those goals almost perfectly, and better than anything else i've seen.

my only knock on the gripper is i read somewhere it's not being developed anymore, which means it *might* not still be in active production.

The mvp is my go to mod it is like i say all the time rock solid you can run it over with a truck. Pocket friendly and last 2 days charges usb cable so if you got a cell phone carger u can charge your mod! its a pass through and has ego threads. I dont use the i clear it came with gave them away i use boge carto tanks and its been rocking. . .

Pbusardo does a review smokteck gripper vs mvp. He favors the mvp a lot it seems.

My bad it was the smokteck groove review and he compared it to the i taste as the smokteck felt cheaper to him.
