Now that's a cool idea I hadn't thought of. I got sick of the cheap gold finish rubbing off so I painted some of my batts black with high-temp appliance paint.
I think I'll give the gun metal a try next time.

Here is an example of a PV that has been stripped completely of the black paint and cold-blued with Birchwood-Casey gun bluing purchased at Walmart.

Thanks! It actually looks better than the picture shows. Lots of reflection coming off the gun and the PV. For comparison, the bluing on the slide of the gun is perfect and a deep rich hot blue process although it looks washed out in the picture. There is no "holster wear" on the slide at all. The PV looks just as good. I'm trying to convince a vendor to order gun-blued PVs direct from China.
