My wife is from England and their saying is a little different. When we splurge on something, she will say "it's beans on toast" for the next few weeks...just a saying however, because I have never actually eaten beans on toast.

Here it's soupbeans and cornbread. .. and my husband actually loves that so it's awesome when we are broke and he has to eat it! Lol..

I just think it's hilarious that everyone wants me to not think of myself as elderly, when I'm totally fine with that. It only has impacted my life in good ways and to be quite frank, if I could go back to age 20 with all the knowledge I have now, I probably wouldn't do it.

Thinking of changing my name to Elder Mistress of the Dark Nicotinic Arts, but if ya'll want me to wait to call myself elderly until I'm really close to dead, well, okay. It's no problem. :)

I think Elderly is a category in life, NOT a state of mind, and the good news on that is that my state of mind really only selects the good things out of experience, not the bad ones.

Elderly is an old lady looking at me and my kid with matching T-shirts saying "I'm on a Boat! F trees, I climb buoys M(censored) F(censored)!!!!" with deep distain, and then staring at my husband thinking, "What's wrong with your daughter and HER kid." Instead of just enjoying the experience, because how often do you see a mom and kid celebrating the great art of the Lonely Island together, in public, etc. That's bad elderly. If I saw that kind of behavior in a family, I'd be all intrigued and ask what the shirts were about and etc. So, I guess a mindset is part of it, but IDK, I think it's funny that everyone's saying "Don't identify as elderly."

I do. That doesn't mean I feel old, or mature, or unable to have fun, I have TONS of fun.

I think I'm going to leave it there, but I CELEBRATE my grey hairs, my wrinkles, and I think I've only gotten more beautiful (as a person) as I've aged, even if my outsides have changed (a bit). I also happen to find very many VERY elderly people (Very elderly to me is 70 or more) incredibly beautiful or handsome because of who they are, not what they look like, as looks are totally subjective IMO.

That is actually what I told my mother we should make for Sunday dinner, but she wants me to make Chicken and Dumplings. We just call it Beans and cornbread though and sometimes we fry cabbage to go with it.

I do hear you Anna. For myself I am irritated that as supposed intelligent humans we are still using labels. Labels are needed for some functionality, but has no place in how you view yourself or others. Not sure I am expressing myself well, just my opinion and frustration.

I have four grandchildren and I'm not yet 49. I've been a grandma since I was in my late 30's.

It's not my having grandkids that makes me feel "old" sometimes, it's being disabled - nothing like leg braces and a cane to make you feel a bit elderly, even though I was only 30 when my back was broken.

Also, it was a little weird when my daughter went into menopause before me... (due to illness on her part..) we made TONS of jokes about that! Hahaha (you always look at your mother to gauge how that will go for you, but for me I looked to my daughter. . Hahaha )

So, for me I had "elderly problems " very very young which occasionally makes me feel older than I am.. my husband laughs sometimes and says he married me because I can't outrun him which is a net positive for him... Hahaha. I don't bring up the fact that crippled or not I can STILL outrun him..

But honestly, in today's day I'm not old, and neither are you!

And I'm still in a performing rock band.

See, that's exactly what I mean, there are tons of bands in Tucson like that, and I LOVE attending their concerts. It's so incredibly fun to see talented (older) musicians (and I'm not even talking about the famous ones) performing, having an awesome time, and acting like Rock Stars, I love it and the husband and I attend several of these concerts each year.... I enjoy the bands more than younger musicians sometimes, as often they've been performing together for so long, it's like watching a family. :) :)

Your positive outlook will keep you young and not elderly at all. Having grandchildren at a young age just means that they get to enjoy you a lot longer and they will keep you young. Elderly is just a word and a state of mind though, that has no effect on who you are.

In simplest terms..............Die young,

as late as possible!
Yep, that's my plan. I don't believe in putting people in boxes as Young, old, elderly, disabled, rich, poor, etc... whether or not I myself fall into one of those boxes. You are only as old as you feel in your own mind. I kayak fish with a gentleman who is 78. I don't consider him elderly, he is just my friend and he is a very wise and knowledgeable guy, who is a lot of fun to hang out with.

Elderly at 40? Kinda making me sad there Anna. Elderly is a state of mind IMO.

That's true. I've said it before, some people are in touch with their inner child. I've always been in touch with my inner old man and happy about it. We went to hear our friends daughters band play the other night. It was so loud I bought earplugs and it took me back to when I was in my 20 and I remembered how much I hate places like bars. I also remembered people thought loudness equaled quality back then too. It still doesn't.
