Just got my Halo G6, thought I would keep a brief "diary" of my experiences for those that are considering one.

Some background: I bought an el cheapo pen-style back in 2008 and was less than thrilled with it. I vaped for about 3 months before ditching that one. Decided to give vaping another go after doing some research — seems the tech & quality has improved dramatically since I last tried vaping, and this time I also bought quality stuff. Ordered a Halo G6 starter kit (arrived today) and a Vapage V-mod XL (not here yet).

My purchase decisions were based on the reviews and feedback here, both models I purchased seemed to fit the bill for what I wanted and had the user enthusiasm I was looking for. I bought the V-mod XL as a home vape (I work from home and currently smoke in the house). I bought the Halo for an "out and about" supplementary device.

The Halo G6 arrived today. The packaging was nice and I agree with other reviews that the instruction manual is a big plus, especially for new users who don't know about ECF :) I ordered three cartomizer flavors to give the Halo juices a try, and was given a small bottle of an additional flavor by Halo — very cool! The shipping was extremely fast, even over the New Year's holiday.

On the plus side, the items, even down to the cartomizers and their cases, seem very well made. On the negative side, the manual suggests an initial 8 hour charge which means a new user can't give this thing a try for quite a while after receiving it. I was under the impression that rechargeable battery tech eliminated these things nowadays, so I am interested to learn more about why this is the case. A big downside to the experience. It's also a bummer that both batteries can't be charged at once, even with the purchase of an additional USB charging adapter.

Since I am going to follow the manual, that's it for at least 8 hours :)

The 8 hours are a myth, you are correct newer battery chemistry does not require this. The batteries have no memory effect or break in charge.

Here is a good post with info: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-issues/8852-li-ion-batteries-truth.html

Thanks for that info. The only thing that concerns me is that Halo prints the charging instructions right in the manual. One would think they were aware of the recharge thing? Or is it just a fail safe for new users to make sure they have a charged battery? Also, the website makes no mention of the battery type, although I believe I read elsewhere on ECF that they were indeed Lithium Ion batteries.

You will love the G6. I have been using mine for 5 days now and for a small (mini) battery, the carts when combined with battery give off LOTS of vapor.

Now my problem is I see to use 1 bat charge every two hours (Im a HEAVY vaper evidently). So if you are like me and like to sit through a movie at home and vape away, expect to go through a battery...so make sure you keep BOTH charged.

Now at work (instead of smoking cancer sticks) I will go outside with my smoking buddies and vape 5 or 6 good hits...and Im good to go. One battery lasts me one 8-9 hour work day. G6'es are perfect for vaping like you would smoke a cig.

I just wonder if leaving my batt in the charger overnight is bad. I usually put the batt in that I have been vaping on in the charger before I go to bed to ensure a full charge batt for the next day.

The initial charge is mentioned in a lot of places for other devices (cellphones etc) so it is pretty widely believed. Many may also not be aware of the actual chemical composition of the battery. (NiCad for example does have a memory effect).

It doesn't necessarily harm the battery to leave it on that long however as they have overcharge protection. BUT it is possible for that protection to fail or short out due to juice on the connection. You should be careful not to place a battery with wet juice on it in the charger. Personally I have left my G6 batteries charging overnight, but I would never leave my trustfire charger for mods charging when I am not there and coherent.

Decided to jump the gun on the battery :)

First impressions: much better hit from the G6 than my earlier purchase. More vapor, more consistent. Haven't used long enough to determine battery life. The Halo juice is definitely better than the generic stuff I got years ago, but not significantly better IMO. I ordered the Torque 56, Prime 15 and Tribeca — Tribeca is by far the best of the bunch. I didn't really care for the others at all. I got a free sample of Captain Jack, and it was OK but I may have not filled the blank cartomizer properly. I think I will try some of the more fruit-flavored options. The tobacco favors don't taste like tobacco anyways :) the other favors are too "smoky" for me.

Next up is to see what kind of battery life I am getting, that was a big issue with my old e-cig. But this thing is already much better than the one I got years ago. Vapor production is better, and more consistent.

I disliked the Prime a lot when I first received my sampler kit. However, after about a week, it tasted divine. The nuttiness of it is just the right thing sometimes. Maybe letting it steep a bit before vaping it again will give you a flavor you enjoy.

Yeah even after a day I've noticed that the taste is a bit different. Need to give it some more time. How do I "let it steep"?

Day Two

Impressed by the battery life, it definitely overcomes the frustration I had with my old pen-style. Been using it around the house all day today (I work from home) and really never even had to think about the battery. Seems to still give decent hits even towards the end of the battery's charge. That and the whole "cartomizer" approach really makes this a good entry kit for someone wanting to try e-cigs. I might have stuck with these had this been around when I first tried them.

Getting more used to the juices too, not as smoky as the first impression I had of them. I've been rotating flavors to give them all a go.

Forgot: one gripe I do have is the cartomizers themselves have no indication as to the flavor. Even just the initials of the flavor or something. But that's not really specific to Halo.

The cartos are the blank ones just prefilled with juice. There are many posts on the forum about how to mark your cartos so that you know what flavors are in them (magic markers, fingernail polish, braces rubberbands, etc). It is an issue with multi flavors. I only use two & so I can sniff and tell which is which. Check around ecf & see if you can't find a system that will work for you.

I am envisioning a new business here, kind of like the "wine glass jewelry" thing but for cartomizers :)

So I can say that after a few days of using the Halo G6, this setup is MUCH nicer than what I tried years ago. Easier to hit, batteries that I don't really need to worry about — and I pretty much sip this thing all day. I'm very curious how this will compare to the V-Mod, which should be here any day now. I almost feel like it's going to be overkill as the Halo pretty much does the trick for me now.

I have only had 9 analogs so far in 3 days, which is a big deal for me. A lot of my analog smoking came from mindless habit, and these e-cigs are superb for those types for smokes — the one you smoked out of routine versus desire.

I've already begun to notice my sense of smell being heightened, both on the positive side and the negative side. Ironically, it's making even my analogs taste better! Not a good thing :)

As far as the Halo juices go, I like Tribeca the best. Prime 15 I just cannot do —.I take the cart off after a few hits. Torque is OK. The Captain Jack definitely has a cigar-ish taste to it, not for me. Just ordered a personal sampler of Midnight Apple, Malibu, Tiki Juice & True Pure. I'm actually looking for non-smoky flavors, since to be honest none of these things really tastes like a cigarette to me enough to add the smoky taste. Maybe over time though. I should have a good idea of almost all Halo has to offer in just a few days!

I'm still craving an analog here and there, but I am actually OK with that —.I went into this with realistic expectations of trying to at the least cut down my analog addiction. Mostly I wanted to end that mindless habit smoking I did/do while working in front of the computer all day. If I can quit, even better.

The biggest plus to the e-cigs are the fact that I can take a few tokes (vokes?) here and there without needing to finish an entire cigarette. I'm still not a fan of the chemical aftertaste I get with any juice, but I can already tell I am getting used to it.

Oddly, this morning (maybe it was the coffee?) the Torque 56 tastes pretty damn good. The chemical "mouth film" isn't there.

Also, man does Halo ship FAST! Ordered the juice last night, already had a tracking number before I fell asleep! I like that a lot.

I have never noticed a chemical taste from Halo's juice but I have from other vendors. Leaving the cap off for a day seemed to do the trick.

And yeah Halo is really good with processing orders. Other vendors could learn something from how quickly halo turns around orders. (I am also very lucky as the post office delivers my orders the next day)

As the day progressed, the intensity of the flavor definitely wore off. I switched carts to see if that was the issue but no go. Confused as to why the inconsistency. If I could get the flavor I was getting earlier today, I'd be all over vaping! It's back to being very weak. Oddly it does't even taste bad or good, just kind of bland/neutral.
