So I've heard some great things about Halo and their USA Made Premium e-liquid. My curiosity was piqued, so I ordered their variety pack sampler last Thursday.
Monday morning, it was in my mailbox. Now, I generally don't concern myself too much with labeling, packaging, etc... but Halo is a different company. The sampler came packaged in an attractive little tin, with all the bottles securely in foam, instead of just a few bottles in a baggie like we're used to seeing.
The tin has a solid-fitting lid, and the bottles are professionally labeled with Halo's logo, the amount of juice in the bottle, the nic level, a lot #, and a best before date.
On the drag, you can tell this is a menthol. It's got a bite to it, but not a sickly 'dinner mint' flavor like some menthols that I have tried. On the inhale, it tickles your throat perfectly; just enough to satisfy but not enough to induce coughing and gagging. You also notice a bit more sweetness on the inhale than you do on just the drag. On the exhale, the 'Malibu' in Malibu Menthol comes out in full force; just like a Pina Colada on a hot summer day.
Vapor-wise, this juice doesn't stand up to some pure VG juices that I've tried, however it definitely holds its own against any PG out there. Looking at Halo's site, I couldn't tell you the PG/VG ratios that are used, but the ingredients label (that still blows my mind by it's inclusion) states both Propylene Glycol and Glycerin, but doesn't state amounts. If Halo's labeling follows traditional food ingredient labels, it would be more PG than VG, and it vapes like about an 80/20.
The throat hit, as I stated before, is strong, but not enough to be painful. This stuff hits harder at 18mg than anything else I have on my desk at the moment (Dekang 24mg, Ms. T's 36mg, Totally Wicked various, and CCV 18mg) save for the 36mg TW Original Tobacco that is almost three years old.
Flavor is beastly on this juice, both in quality and quantity. All of the flavors involved (menthol, tobacco, and the pina colada) co-exist very well. I have always shied away from menthol mix juices as the menthol tends to just push out nay other flavors in the juice. In this juice, while it's undoubtedly present and potent, it doesn't over-shine the other flavors like most menthols do. The tobacco is just the right smokey undertone for me (some may find it a bit weak) and the pina colada is just delicious. The juice leaves a pleasantly sweet/minty taste in your mouth that is not too string, but strong enough to be appreciated.
I've always been a juice hopper, and never really a 'vape this all day' kinda guy, but I think I may have found the juice that converts me.
I am also a believer in getting good value in e-juice, and I think this juice delivers. I paid just under $30 (including first-class shipping) for the sampler pack, and there were six 7ml bottles included. That works out to about $0.86 per mL which, while on the higher-end of juices out there, I think is warranted by the excellent presentation of the products and the high quality of the juice. Normal price is $19.99 per 30ml, plus about $5 shipping. This works out to $0.83 per mL, which is right in line with the sampler. I'm excited to order a full bottle of this juice (waiting to see how i like the other flavors in days to come) to see what kind of packing and shipping is used on them.
Also, I think it worth mentioning here that while most companies use bubble mailers to ship, my Halo sampler came in a corrugated cardboard box. I don't think that this is a huge plus, but after having the USPS mutilate a few packages of mine, it makes me a little more secure that my stuff will show up unscathed.
Overall, I would give this juice the following ratings:
Flavor: 10/10 – excellent from drag to aftertaste
Vapor: 8/10 – awesome vapor for a PG juice
Throat Hit: 9/10 – just the perfect tingle
Presentation: 10/10 – the best packaged juices I’ve ever purchased
Value: 10/10 – excellent in every way
This is definitely a juice that I will be buying some more of. If I can peel myself away from this for a bit, I will be doing reviews on the rest of the sampler pack as well.
