I contacted Councillor Sam Merulla today and this is what he had to say:

The intent is not to ban but regulate the use similar to tobacco. ‎It can play an
important role for smoking cessation programs. My concern is not related to your
use.

Thank you,

Councillor Sam Merulla,
Ward 4, East Hamilton,
City Hall: 905. 546. 4512
24 hour pager: 905. 777. 7491
Twitter: @Sam_Merulla

We've heard that lie spoken by US legislators for years. I'll believe it when I see it.

Seeing plumes of clouds where you normally wouldn't see them and smelling flavours in places where you ususally wouldn't could be irritating for some. If i was having dinner with my wife and was sitting next to a group of cloud chasers, i would be annoyed....especially if i was eating a steak and all i could smell was watermelon or strawberry shortcake. I vape everywhere....but am very descreet and never blow out clouds in areas that would be obviously designated as non-smoking. I don't mind "regulation of use"....just don't be a douche and be aware of others people's personal space. If I'm sitting in a waiting room, I don't want to see or smell someone elses clouds as much as i don't want to hear someone else's conversation over speaker phone.

Yeah, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. How he got to become councillor is beyond my comprehension. A few other people I've talked to have said that talking to him is like talking to a brick wall, and I tend to agree. I'll probably be going to the next public health meeting to make sure he doesn't try anything sneaky.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see a problem with them regulating where you vape. I know it not smoking, and granted I have only been vaping for about a month, but come on.

If you can't go through a meal without vaping, then dare I say you may have a problem. If your not willing to step outside and vape, then you may have a problem. I personally would prefer not to see clouds of smoke when I am eating.

Respect for others will help us guarantee that we have the right to continue vaping.

Just my 2 cents.

I think a key factor in this issue is finding a common ground that everyone finds fair.

For example in Nevada (I believe anyways) smoking is prohibited wherever there is food being served (and private properties if they wish) but you can walk around the casinos smoking as much as you wish (at least when I was there last).

IMO an ideal agreement would be any "Public Buildings (Schools, Libraries, Hospitals etc.) or commercial buildings where food is being served" vaping could be prohibited, and I would totally understand and not care.

As it has been said above though, the best rule is to use your good judgement and be respectful of others. Don't take our legal-freedom as arrogance to others.

Just thought i'd chime in as everyone else offered their good opinions too!

I don't vape in places that don't allow smoking. As much as it pains me to say... If you are Vaping juice with nicotine in it, then really - you are feeding the addiction just as you did when you smoked. I am not saying what I do is right or what everyone should do. But if you are say at work; and you start craving the vape... Maybe, just maybe it is time to take a much needed break. Get up, walk away from your desk and go outside for some air. It is not necessary to vape in restaurants... Even the smokers abide by this... It is common courtesy... There have been NUMEROUS restaurants I have personally had to leave (in the middle of eating) because someone was seated near me wearing far too much perfume (I have an allergy to perfume) those people were never told to leave due to their odor - I left. Is that fair? No. We should all show common courtesy in the things we do which may affect others. Just my two cents.
