Soo I received a mini dna 40 from the wife for Christmas and im just now able to sit down and start playing with it. Issue number 1 is unless its plugged into the usb it wont even kick on and as soon as you unplug it the screen will go black. Issue number 2 is that ive tried about 5 different atties on it including an atlantis and I get the check atomizer message for every one of them. So am I missing something or is this screwed up from the start?

Sound like the battery is bad. Pass through will not function either without a good battery. They recommend any of these with 16A continuous rating or higher:
AW IMR
Panasonic CGR
Sony VTC4
LG HE2
If you did install a known good one of those then check the battery connections, I once had a mod where the battery connector had bent back in transit and didn't function until I straightened it.
Edit: just realized you said it is the "mini" in which case it has a built in lipo so can't help you with that, sorry.

Well, if the Battery is built in, the first thing to do is fully charge it.
Then, if It will not power on unplugged - Return it.
Nothing User repairable inside.

Sounds like a bad Lipo (the battery in the Hana Mini).......I hate to say this, but I would return it....I know how it is to have to return something that you JUST got....sucks...I had to return my Vaporflask (for a bad DNA 40 chip) and it still smelled like the bubble wrap it came in! And I still don't have it back (been gone a month)......booooooo.....

I got one for Christmas as well. Mine came pretty much dead and needed to let it charge for a half hour to vape anything in it. Left if charge for 4 or 5 hours and battery gauge showed full but still had red light showing. (Should have been fully charged in about 3-3.5 hours).
I gave up waiting for green light so i took it with me to a Christmas party and vaped the hell out of it. When I got home I threw it on the charger and left it alone. 3 hours later I went to check on it and green light.
Maybe your battery just needs to cycle a few times to get going good?

A lot of lithium-based cells degrade quite quickly when stored with an inadequate charge. Devices purchased dead on arrival should always be treated as suspect, in my experience. I feel for the OP, as that is a crappy situation for sure!
since the device is new the OP should return it for exchange. It does sound like a dead lipo. If it were me I would buy another lipo pack and fix it myself but that does require soldering skills and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't have soldering experience. If it is under warranty the OP should take advantage of that and send it back.
If it's the mod I am thinking of the lipos have quick connects very easy to replace.
You're right, it does. Didn't pay any attention to it. Mine works fine though. I was posting it in response to the post about requiring soldering to replace battery.
itll definitely be going back. Besides the battery thing im not sure why it wont recognize any of my atomizers unless the battery issue is causing this as well.
sooooo I feel like a ....... After talking to Hana and removing the back discovered that the problem was a simple ... fix.... Put a battery in. Looks like hyperion sent me the full version instead of the mini (even the invoice says mini), Guess in my post Christmas rage of it not working I threw it back in the box without realizing it was full size.
Yea I can laugh now. When I first got it and couldn't get it working not so much. Now I have to decide if I want to just keep the full size or send it back in for a mini.
