Thanks! That was a good read. I related a lot, but I have nearly 35 years with the stinkies. After my most recent cold turkey attempt, I found myself at the mall kiosk listening to the salesman ramble on and thinking , "For the LOVE OF GOD, please just shut the hell up and put the damned thing in the bag before I smash you in the face and just take it."

My "mall sticks" as I call them, have not been all that bad, but I did put a Riva 510 on order after reading a bit here (Can't wait!)

Wellbutrine gave me nightmares too. I had cartoon cannibals! Which reminds me, were your SD characters the animated variety, or from the live action movie? Not that it matters much, but my Welbutrine days were the only time I remember dreaming in animation. Maybe there's a connection.

Oh, and don't worry about the long-posts. I sometimes get ........ of the keyboard too, and mine is usually nowhere near as cogent. I look forward to reading more.

Excellent read! (this is coming from a guy whose first instinct was TL : DR) Glad I changed my mind :)

The conversation continued on as usual to discuss a multitude of other things, like cars and duck tape and lesbians and serial killers. You know, the norm. It wasn't until I saw my bank account balance about two days later that his earlier comment came back to my mind. Seeing as how my summer job was over and I was heading to school shortly thereafter, the math looked something like this:

$XXX - ($10.35 x Y Days) = NOT LONG TIL SCREWED

^LOLOLOLOLOLOL

So an average cigarette contains 10mg of nicotine. 10%, or 1mg, is absorbed into the body. 1mg x 20 cigarettes = 20mg of nicotine per day, into my bloodstream. vaping 2ml of 18mg liquid per day, that's 36mg of nicotine in the liquid I'm vaping. A 10% absorption rate gives me 3.6mg of nicotine. Wait. But, that's only three and a half cigarettes. I'd be going insane if that's all I had for an entire day. Absolutely nuts. But then I remembered the Health New Zealand study. Dr. Laugesen estimated the effectiveness of e-cig nicotine delivery to be roughly 10% of that of cigarette smoke. Another 10%. That's 1/100th of the nicotine from the liquid making it into my bloodstream.

Is this accurate? (or remotely close to accurate?)

I ask, because I have this paranoia about chain-vaping. I really want to, but I find myself restraining the urge because I don't want to get nicoting OD symptoms.

If this is even remotely accurate, it will make me feel much better about going through a tank/carto/clearo of 18mg per day.

$10.35 for a pack of Marbs in that part of NY

WAT!?? OMG. I was mad today that I spent $5.50 on a pack here in NC. I'm only buying a pack or two per week (as opposed to the pack a day I used to smoke.)

I remember when I started smoking at 16yrs old, Marlboros were ~$3.00 per pack. The cheap ones (Bailey's) were ~$1.50 per pack. (barefoot, uphill both ways, in the snow :) )

Good luck with your venture! I have a new addiction to the "tech" as well. I absolutely love the concept of the whole e-cig experience just like you. If i could just stop spending so much money on new juice, I'll be saving money compared to analogs.

mithrandir - I'm currently studying mechanical engineering, although recently, I've begun to doubt that it'll really satisfy me, so consider me undecided as of now. Who knows, maybe writing could be my thing.

carpedebass - I've been hearing a lot of good things about the MDCC's, I'll have to pick up a couple and see how I like them.

SnakeFarm - The Mystery Inc. characters were in a rather bizarre form, very hard to describe, like a realistic, 3D cartoon. But... mangled. Horribly. Every time I hear the intro song, "Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you?", all I can think is, "In a shallow grave off the side of Wisconsin Highway 54." The show will never be the same...

naga77777 - I can't say for sure whether those numbers are correct (as nobody can), but even if vaping had the same nicotine absorption efficiency as smoking, I'd still only be taking in an absolute maximum of 3.6mg per day.

Once again, thank you for the support, everybody. Like I said, the only things I've ever seen on this forum have been constructive discourse. There's so much information and genuine well-wishing here, I've never seen any community quite like it.

Hi and welcome, Rubber Ducky! Ex-23 year smoker here! Great post, BTW; I almost TLDR'd, but I love ecig success stories!

I was a New Yorker, too (Brooklyn) and I remember when I started smoking in high school I used to walk about a mile to school (in Queens!) just so I could use my train fare money to buy smokes (which were $2 a pack back then). Rain sleet or snow; I was walkin'... What a dumbass! LOL

Congrats on switching! Much success to ya!

In Illinois when I first started 30 years ago, yes Marlboro's could still be purchased here for 79 cents a pack. I was 13 and it was not long before they started taxing the crap out of them. I remember saying when they get to $1.50 I'm gonna quit. Then it was "insert next dollar amount here and I'll quit". Now I don't have to say it any more. I still have 1 here or there but hope one day it will be totally gone for good.

It's funny to think that here in the western world, we see e-cigarettes as less-expensive alternative to smoking, but in China, where the vast majority of these devices are coming from, cigarettes are still so cheap that these things would be an expensive switch. I suppose I can't really complain, though. If it wasn't for the ludicrous taxes in place that are driving the value of a box of organized plant matter through the roof, I'd still be killing myself with them.
