Short answer: no.

We've never had a report of a single-battery APV exploding or violently outgassing in use, though plenty of batteries experience incidents on charge, which is why a Li-Po charging sack is a good idea.

However there are several reports of battery meltdowns even in the most expensive devices, so nothing is truly 'safe'. Meltdowns were generally just a battery getting very hot, smoke coming out of the device, and the battery melting. Nowhere near as dangerous as the twin-cell incidents, but nevertheless single cell devices aren't completely incident-free.

Statistically they are a safe choice purely as regards explosions; but don't blame me if, one day, a single batt APV does go bang. Your best policy is to buy one with significant gas venting capability as that is the only real defense, in the end. Sealed devices aren't a good idea now, due to the wide counterfeiting of batteries.
