So I recently traded in my vanilla copper mechanical mod for a spiffy new istick 30w and a kangertech nano subohm tank (as recommended, didn't research beforehand like an idiot). I absolutely love the way this tank looks with my istick but that's where the positives end.

The tank absolutely kills all my flavors (i.e pg hype, boba's bounty etc). It makes the vape so hot that I can barely withstand it and makes all the flavors taste 'brown' if that makes sense. I realized that it might be because the included stock coils are at 1.2 and 0.6ohm, I'm assuming that's why it's burning like this? Anywhere from 5-30W and open airflow it's the same issue, and I can't refund it.

Do these nano's by any chance come with higher ohm coils?

Are you priming the coils?

All cotton coils have to be "primed" well with juice. If they are not primed well the cotton will burn. Maybe that's what you are tasting, burned cotton. Unfortunately, once the cotton is burned the burned taste won't go away.

To prime the coil, drop 5-8 drops of juice right inside the coil, another drop of juice in all the holes on the side of the coil. Put the coil in the base, fill the tank and screw the base back onto the tank. Once you put the tank on the battery give it several unpowered primer puffs. This will make sure the wick is fully saturated.

Turn you voltage/wattage down, tank a few hits, bump it up, couple more hits. Repeat until you find your "sweet spot". If your vape starts to taste burnt, dial it back down.

Kangertech suggested operating range for their OCC coils.

Horizontal OCC Coils
0.5 Ω coils - 15 watts to 30 watts.
1.2 Ω coils - 12 watts to 25 watts.

Vertical OCC Coils
0.2Ω coils - ? watts to 80 watts
0.5Ω coils - 15 watts to 60 watts
1.2Ω coils - 10 watts to 26 watts
1.5Ω coils - 10 watts to 26 watts

See I did all that, I also had the 1.2ohm coil already primed by a more experienced vaper-er (the one who sold me the tank). The taste is not so much burnt, it's more like exactly what you would expect it to taste like if it was heated to the point that the flavor would lose all subtlety. The vape itself is also noticeably hot at any watt setting. Sure some people might enjoy this, but I'm definitely more of a 'cool' vape kind of guy. Time for a new tank or is there a way I can avoid wasting $50?

Just curious if you've tried the tank on another mod? I ask because I had a new mod go haywire on me once and even at 7W was outputting so much voltage I couldn't vape anything on it. I had to exchange it. If you have an inline volt meter you can check it. If not, try a different atty on your mod, or that tank on a different mod.

If you re getting Burnt hits at 5w something is messed up
If your vape is Hot at 5w something is messed up

Power comes from the Mod, not the Tank.

A sub ohm Coil at 5w will produce....................diddly, spuddery, wet, weak(at bets) cold vapor.
If this is not your experience, the Mod is Firing much hotter than Assumed.

I have the subtank mini and same problem. Can only do mouth hits, airflow is terrible.

If you find out let me know, it makes me sad mine just sits in the closet all the time
