I have gotten 4 different brand tanks this year including halo triton, volcano inferno, protank 3, and aspire nautilus mini in high hopes of solving this problem. The coil heads have NEVER lasted me over 2 days. Each time i would get a weird taste, idk how to describe it but i can tell the difference right when it happens. I am so frustrated, ive heard mostly good things about the nautilus bvc coils. People say they last over 1week- 1month, and im here pulling my hair out trying to understand why i cant get over 2 days. i have already gone through 15 nautilus mini bvc coils in about a month!!

All my coils and devices ive used are genuine, i vape on aspire 1600mah vv battery (~4volts), coils are 1.8ohm, 12mg menthol Subzero (idk the pg/vg), i go through about 1ml a day. What are all the possible causes for weird taste? i really need to find out what im doing wrong..please give me any suggestions

Is it a burnt taste? I too am vaping with the Nautilus mini tank and changed my coil out after about ten days. Still, I get the occasional "burnt" hit, even with a new atomizer. I notice that I especially get hit with the burnt taste when I haven't pulled a hit off of it in a while... Seems that the more often I hit it, the better it tastes... I am very new to vaping (and this is my first day here) so I am also looking for tips and trying to figure things out as I go... I'm always adjusting my port depending on how it's hitting...

When I purchased my e-cig two weeks ago, the guy at the shop suggested that I set my battery (Vision Spinner II) on 3.8v when using the Nautilus mini tank.. However, I have found that on a full charge, it hits better if I drop it to 3.3v, and as the battery starts to die down (under 30%), I'll crank it up to 4.3 or 4.8v... Not sure if this is just all in my head, but it seems to be helping with the burnt hits.. I too would welcome any suggestions.

I'm definitely not the most qualified to answer, but have you vaped different brands of juice and experienced the same effect?

no, unfortunately no other juice ive tried satisfies me.. but i have asked many other people who have used halo's subzero and they have had no problems. its not a thick and dark juice and they said it goes easiest on the coils compared to other juices they use

There are some liquids I really like at first, but as soon as there is any build up on the coil at all, I don't like them one bit.
One I'm thinking of just tastes like burnt sugar to me after about 10 drags.

That said, there are some I love best once there is a build up of gunk.

All those stock coils use silica?
Maybe you don't like gunky silica...maybe it's time to learn to rebuild those coils and try different wicking material?

If silica, you could try dry burning and rinsing to see if you can get more good taste outta the same coil.

Good luck!

i cant say this is EXACTLY the cause, but are you sure your coils are propperly soaked in juice before taking your first puff?

i noticed when using silica(i use cotton now) if i get a "dry hit", it will ruin the taste of that wick forever. when i was new, i used to pop in new heads and expect it to be ready - getting dry hits the first few puffs...

with the BVC's it is REALLY important to prime the coil before first use.

The vision spinner is a regulated device, meaning that a computer chip inside controls how much power is actually going through the coils. The higher the power, the quicker the battery will drain, but it will put out what you set it to from a full charge until the battery dies. The same cannot be set for a mechanical (unregulated / no computer chip mod) because that will put out power proportional to how charged the battery actually is.

That said, how hot the coil gets will affect how consistently the juice wicks up the material, as will the level of juice in your tank. I don't know about the bvc coils (that come with the nautilus mini) but other bottom-fed coils tend to perform poorly when the juice level gets very low. When you push the heat up really high, it may be drying out the wick faster than it can keep getting saturated and this can and does lead to more burning.

Another thing to consider is the ratio of vg to pg in the juice you are buying. I'm guessing you have 50/50 juice, since that's generally recommended for beginners. The more pg, the more flavor you will get, the harsher the throat hit will be, and the easier the juice will wick up, ensuring that it is always saturated so that the coals aren't heating up dried-out wicks and burning it. More vg will give you a smoother vape and bigger clouds, however, so it is more appropriate for a rebuildable dripper type atomizer.

The biggest advice I can give you, especially for the nautilus, is to let the tank sit for a minute or so before going to use it right away after you put a new one in, and more importantly to take a few primer puffs (don't power it) which will help the wick saturate with juice. If you hit the vape too soon, it may burn the wick a little bit right before it fully saturates, which will burn it very slightly and then leave a somewhat permanent taste that does get lesser as you keep hitting it. This also applies to when you leave the vape alone for a while, some of the juice will leave the wicks and you'll experience the same problem. Both of these scenarios seem in-line with what you're describing.

So give that a try, and I hope that helps!

BVC coils are filled and lined with ceramic fibers.

Have you cleaned your tanks prior to use?

I agree there is a chance it could be your juice too. As mentioned, I have bought some that I loved on the spot only to leave them on the shelf weeks or months later. Could also be a bad batch.

It's a good idea to clean the chimney wuth a pipe cleaner daily.

Hope some of this gets you in the right direction.

yes i let new heads sit for 15-20 min and i even tried a method where i take 1 sec primer drags before and after every hit!
btw where do i get 470ml for 25$ o_O. im buying 30ml for 20$

Nope i dont clean the tanks, i didnt think it would be necessary.. i have vaped on subzero for over 6months, but you maybe right..seems close to impossible that im having no success with any brand coils. But then again i have posted a topic before asking people about their experience with subzero and ive received nothing but positive reviews. (weeks on a coil)

DIY my friend. very cost effective. current rise in prices. id say its now 30$ per 480mls lol. but regardless, still very cheap compared to store bought

Very good advice and greatly appreciated! The PG/VG ratio is a very good point, and I hadn't even considered it. While I do pull a few puffs without heating the coil to prime, I haven't even considered the viscosity of the juice, and looking at those tiny ports at the bottom of the atomizer, I could see where a higher VG juice would have a tough time getting in there... I have been vaping Pineapple Express from Vigilante Juice Co. Nowhere on the bottle (nor on their website) lists the PG/VG ratio... However, on one of their vendor's sites, their juices are all listed as 80% VG and 20% PG, so the viscosity issue would make a lot of sense... With the juice giving plenty of "throat hit" at 18 mg. nicotine, I am comfortable with the amount of vapor and the throat feel... Nonetheless, it sounds like I should look into a lower VG and see if it feeds into the atomizer a little more consistently... Thanks for the help, Swizz!

When the steel is machined, they have to use machining oil to keep things running smoothly. There is often machining oil residue on new tanks... I'd try cleaning a tank, fill it with fresh juice and a new coil and see what happens. You can always keep the older coil and juice on the side just in case.

No problem! One more big thing I forgot that you may have noticed by now anyway, the less airflow you set it to, the more vacuum action you'll get, priming the wick harder. I know when I first got an adjustable airflow tank I always had it on the biggest opening which led to more of a muted flavor and burning.

Yes... In fact, I place my thumb over the port/carb when I'm priming it until I see a bubble rise in the tank.. Thanks again!
