I can chime in on this. I just bought an Aspire Nautilus with BVC coils included (1.6O pre-installed, 1.8 extra). After confirming the preinstalled coil was infact a BVC I washed the upper hardware and glass case. After drying everything I filled with my favorite liquid. Added 3 or 4 drops on the coil itself before screwing the bottom hardware to the top. After a handful of primer pulls and letting it sit for about 10 minutes it was time to turn on the heat. Now I already had two Aspire Mini Nautilus so I have general knowledge and experience with the BVC coils. I know the first 5-10 pulls will have something of a burnt type taste but after that it's usually smooth yummy vaping. But there was this lingering metallic taste almost on the verge of something like kerosene or gasoline. Don't really get it...So I pulled the 1.6O coil, replaced it with the included 1.80 coil and still that same nasty metallic taste. I know for a fact it's NOT my juice, which tastes perfectly fine out of the Mini. So I'm kinda stumped...
Can the bottom hardware be washed(without the coil of course)? Should it be washed?
Does the regular Nautilus take more time to prime as compared to the Mini?

Thanks for the advice!

Edit: Update! The metallic taste went away. Yay! It just took a little longer than I expected. Sometimes I just need to be like a doctor and have patients!

I'm glad I found this thread! I just bought a mini nautilus yesterday, after reading/watching multiple reviews. I was excited because several reviewers were really stressing that the taste quality was superior to other tanks. I did not wash the tank when I got it home because I was so excited to try my new toys (also bought an MVP 2.0) that I didn't think about it. I also stupidly forgot to prime the tank with my first load of juice, so I burned the CRAP out of the installed coil. It was so bad I had to trash it. I've been vaping on the new coil since yesterday about this time…and I love the vapor production and everything else…but the taste is weird. It isn't a burnt taste, it's more of a combination metallic/spoiled taste like some of you are describing. I thought it might just be that I'm still getting used to the different settings and increased power of the MVP, but was starting to feel a little nervous as all three of my regular favorite liquid flavors have the same "off" taste with the nautilus. I'm about to take the tank apart and clean everything out really well, and see if that helps.

Not sure if it's OK to post this here in this thread, or if I should have started a new one because I'm still figuring out the way things are done here. If I've done the wrong thing, please let me know.

So…I took my nautilus apart and washed everything very well (everything but the coil) and dried it out. I did what some have suggested and dripped a few drops of juice inside the coil, then filled it up and screwed everything together. I let it sit upright for a good 15/20 minutes, then did a few primer puffs. Then, I vaped it…and the nasty taste is still there. Slightly metallic and spoiled seeming. I was concerned that I might just still be figuring out the wattage/voltage of the MVP, so I took the tank off and tried it on my spinner battery. Still funky and gross. So gross, that it's putting me off my juice!

I am currently using my Protank 2, which is fine, but I'm sad that I seem to be having issues with a tank that so many people love. I'm going to drop my my B&M in the next few days, the guys there are really nice and they all use nautilus tanks themselves, so maybe they can give me some insight. I currently have the top and glass tank soaking in warm water, thought I might leave it there for a few hours and see what that does, then let it dry overnight and give it another try in the morning. If I can't figure it out, it's money wasted, as it does not matter how well it produces vapor if it makes my juice taste like socks. :( Anyone have an issue with a bad taste that wasn't due to burned coil or not washing the tank? If so, how did you fix it?

Yeah, I let the whole thing dry out overnight, then repeated the drip a few drips directly on the coil, fill the tank, take a few primer puffs, let it sit for 15 minutes process, then vaped it on my MVP. I tried multiple different voltage and wattage settings, on the off chance that I was just getting used to the MVP itself or how the aspire performs at different settings. Still funky. I tried the tank on my EVOD twist, which up until two days ago was my main setup, using my favorite all day juice (Cosmic Fog Milk and Honey) at the setting that was the "sweet spot" for that juice for me, plus a few different settings because I know the coil is a different resistance than my T3s tanks. STILL FUNKY. The funk is lessened, somewhat. But it is still there especially on the exhale. Sharp metallic/spoiled milk with just a touch of mildew.

So, now that I've spent an hour or so vaping for science, I'm at a loss. Did I just completely waste 30 bucks? Did I get a bad coil? I've got nothing to compare it to, since I stupidly destroyed my first coil. Still going to visit my B&M and possibly buy one more coil for the thing, just to see if it's just that the one I have is bad. But I'm starting to think that it's just the taste of the coil itself somehow, and that I'm going to have to figure out a new tank. :( Also, even if it is the coil itself that is the problem…not sure I'm going to want to spend 4 bucks every couple of weeks on new coils never knowing if the new coil is going to be carrying the funk too.

I'm with you Megan167, I can't stand metal drip tips. I have a couple different ones that I change out, one is wooden, several are plastic, one is jade, and I tried them all with this tank with the same result. I never used the metal one that came with the nautilus, it's still in the box the tank came in. Not a battery issue, KansasCity, as the effect is there both on my MVP and my EVOD. The coil is reading 1.6 red37129, when I go tomorrow to get another coil I will ask for a higher resistance and try that.

I'm noticing that since I've stopped the analogs, my sense of taste and smell is coming back with a vengeance, and I'm finding that I am sensitive to lots of smells that I've honestly never noticed before. Maybe that is the root of the problem. Thanks for the help guys.

So, if anyone is curious about what happened with my mini nautilus…I went to the B&M this morning and explained the problem I was having. Both the guys there (who use the same tank) felt like it was probably just a bum coil, and that I didn't have anything to compare it too since I burned up my first one. :) They hooked me up with a new 1.8 coil. I took the tank home, put the new coil in, filled it up, let it sit, primed it, and vaped it. And it was delightful. I've been happily vaping away on it the rest of the day, and the funk is gone!

One thing that has been talked about sort of but not fleshed out more is the juice. I bought a fogger and washed it loaded it up, yuck. Wash rinse repeat, still yuck. Washed it again, soaked in alcohol, washed and rinsed one last time and still this gross metallic taste. It was the juice. And like you I was reluctant to toss a bottle that was 13.99 for 15mls. I took it back to the vape shop, they were like eww that is disgusting. I had tried the juice at a 0mg and purchased a 12mg. They were pretty cool and swapped it for a 6 because all of the other 12's were the same lot number. Thts my story. man hoe you get it figured out
