The success stories really help me, too. I recently "fell off the wagon" and am now starting over. You can try either cutting down until you eventually quit or set a date to quit altogether. In my experience, going cold turkey on a set date proved to be the best way for me. Whatever you decide, know that you'll get lots of support from this community. Good luck! :)

for the longest time, i still had to have the cigg in the morning and the cigg in the evening, a pack would last me about a week, finally i weened myself off them about 6 months ago, i still have a relapse when i get around buddies drinking and smoking analogs, but then i wake up the next morning and remember why i quit! sore throat, flem and loss of breath for days. keep up with it, you got a huge support group here! even if you cut back to 5 instead of a pack, your still helping yourself!

Cutting down is a big win, IMO. Even if you never completely quit, it's still a big reduction.

I've had an ego for around 6 weeks. I was a 3 pack a day smoker. Now I smoke about a half pack a day. Even if I never quit cigs, I'm way ahead of where I was.

And I'm convinced that it's just a matter of time before I post a "one week with no cigs" post. :)
