Looking at picking up a new dna device - I have a hc vt200 and an hc v75 - I'm really looking into getting a dual 18650 dna200/133 device -being able to carry an extra set of batteries and ease of swapping batteries is a plus - any help in deciding - pros and cons will be much appreciated

I suspect batteries will be easier to swap in the VT, unless they changed the battery holder in the Therion from the 75.

If it were me I'd still get the Therion though

I have a Therion and love it. The batteries aren't that hard to get in and out, in my opinion, but others have complained about it.

I don't have a vt200, so I can't compare, but I do have a vt75, and Hcigar's devices are quality.

Honestly, between those two I think either is a good choice. It's the same DNA, so it really comes down to appearance and ease of swapping batteries.

The one difference (other than cosmetic) is I know for a fact the VT133 uses the reverse polarity daughter board. I've never known LV to use the daughter board.

On the Triade they use the Rings (mechanical protection). On the Duo, I don't think they are using the board or rings (you can either use a Lipo or dual 18650's). I own the Duo and I'm extremely careful when switching 18650's.

I own a few VT133's and they are very nice imo. Feel good in the hand, built tough, and work great. I don't own a Therion so I can't say anything good or bad about it.

Cheers,
Steve

It's to bad they just didn't go directly to the DNA250/166. As that has reverse polarity protection and the 250 Triade doesn't seem to have the positive physical protectors. But yeah the 133 is going to have the exact same tight fitting sled as the DNA75 version with the same Positive protectors. That said it really only takes about an extra two seconds of work to keep the battery from tearing if you break in the negative contacts a little bit.

I view the Therion 133(166 when available) the same as my Triade. It's a beautiful looking mod with a great board in it. However, that pretty leather back is not, IMO, exactly made made for an out and about knock-around mod. If you have either additional DNA mods to rotate through, or even a non-DNA multibattery mod that's suitable for banging around in your car's cup holder, it's a great choice. I'm not sure I'd subject it to being your all day driver outside the house. The VT133 finish and battery case will probably stand up better to abuse.

That's just a purely personal view when it comes to these mods, but understand I do lean towards babying my stuff.

Why do people make belts, jackets, boots, motorcycle suits, etc. out of leather? Because it's a though and wear-resistant material!

I wouldn't worry about it myself, and even if anything happens it is fairly easy to replace it.

Just use the freakin' thing! ;)

Different types of Leather for different uses. Most outdoor leathers are polished finished leather that is resistant to staining. But also style. I have a leather jacket. I like the look. I like the feel. But I only wear it to family events or when I am going to a friends house where I am going to stay (read not go out). I don't want to wear it to places where I could get pop or beer on it. I don't wear it to work because during winter I might have to help my boss move some biggish items outside and I don't want to take the chance of tearing that (even if it's less likely to tear compared to my other jackets).

The Triade and Therion have several leathers that are basically untreated and will stain easily. They are also basically glued onto the actual battery cover and can protrude out a from the recessed area they they are stuck to. Juice spills on the go (like in a car) that you can't clear up right away could break down the glue. The leather can snag an pull off. While I get the idea of using your device for what it was meant for I also understand the aesthetic of the device is ruined without the leather or with the leather looking like crap. It's a judgment call why spend the extra money on a device that looks great if you are using it in ways where it can get damaged and ruin said look? If I look at the puff counters on all my DNA devices (non of them reset) my Triades and one of my Theriums would have the highest, but outside twice on that Therium, they have been pretty much solely at home. I have SDNA's 75's, an SDNA 200, and a Modcrate that are much better suited (or at least no love lost if they get injured) for going outside.

I agree 100%. I believe the VT133 will be more rugged.

Having said that, I'm a complete ....... to my Therion and it's sturdier than it looks. It bounces around a cup holder in my car (with change), and rides around in my pocket with keys the rest of the time. It's been a few weeks and I can't see any wear on it. I've also gotten juice all over the leather too, and it wipes off easy and I pass a damp cloth over it and it's fine. I don't mistreat it purposefully, but if I'm going to use a device it has to keep up with my daily habits. ...and it has so far.

Plus I could always order a replacement door.

I do feel better knowing I can now find replacement backs for the Triade. There were no such replacements when it was released, but it seems with the 250 release, they're available. If a back were to be terribly damaged, it's now easy enough to replace. Besides, I'm going to pick up a few in different leathers anyway just to trade off. Same applies to the Therion.

I was a little jealous of the newer DNA mods coming out with leather, wood, etc., so I decided to give my VT133 a little makeover. I put a textured "leather" wrap for it and it looks great and feels nice in the hand.

That turned out really well. I was thinking of something similar on my VT75, but I kinda like the finish on it. It has a nice subtle texture that fells good in my hand.

Thanks, just wanted to class it up a little. I saw a black "croc skin" textured wrap, but liked the more subtle look of the "leather".

Well I broke down today and ordered the Therion 133. I was holding out for the 166 but finally gave up as no idea on a release date, and finding even a 133 in stock was becoming more problematic. Picked it with the red ostrich leather. I'm justifying the 133 now as one, I'll never use it at 166W anyway, and two, I really don't need the 2A charging with removable 18650 batteries.

So much for willpower.

I have a vt133 arriving today. My first DNA device. I got it in order to do temp. control for SS wire. I've discovered that my rx200s and Smok r200 are not satisfactory (to me anyway) in temp mode. And then I discover (after I make my order) that DNA devices/Escribe are a pain in the .... to do SS in temp mode. Why can something as modest as a Innokin Coolfire 100 do SS temp perfectly and these ultra cool DNA devices can't????
