I can't imagine why the manual bowl doesnt have that center hole sealed, as there's no pressure switch for it to activate. I suppose a tiny tack cut off short would work, as well as a number of other things. Even a tiny "BB" of silicone sealant would do the job, but I hesitate to shoot silicone in that hole as there's no way to imagine what might be behind it...I can't imagine it hurting anything.
kc0cmp - Your suggestion to block the center hole in the mini pipe is working fantastic! The mini pipe produces much thicker vapor now. I didn't have any cartomizers, but I used some aluminum foil to block the large center hole in the e-pipe body (which - as you mentioned - isn't needed for the manual switch version of the pipe).
