The safety of e-cigarettes is estimated by the experts to be the same as, or better than, Swedish Snus.

Sweden reduced their smoking-related death rate by 40%, by allowing the full promotion of Snus to consumers. They have the lowest smoking-related mortality in the developed world by a wide margin. They have the lowest smoking prevalence of any developed country, 12% to 15% of the population, again by a wide margin.

E-cigarettes are experiencing an uptake of phenomenal proportions, with millions and millions now using them. This growth far exceeds anything seen for Snus. The obvious conclusion, to the meanest of intellects, is that these measures work - and they work far better than any pharma-based solution.

It's time for science-based and evidence-based measures to be supported. If Mrs White thinks she knows better than Professors Rodu, Siegel, Bergen and others, then perhaps she should start publishing medical papers to support her position.

It would be interesting to see the financial reasons why Mrs White takes the position she does. No doubt her agency receives some sort of federal funding or tobacco settlement grant, as it is hard to see how any normal person would make the ridiculous, untenable and factually erroneous arguments she does.

It is true that there are fewer chemicals involved in using an electronic cigarette than a regular cigarette; however, there are still harmful chemicals present. Electronic cigarettes deliver an array of chemicals, including diethylene glycol, a highly toxic substance; various nitrosamines, powerful carcinogens also found in tobacco; and at least four other chemicals suspected of being harmful to humans. The dose of these compounds is smaller than found in "real" cigarette smoke, but it isn't zero.
Tell you what ..... I'll take a 35 to 40 found in an e-cig (none known to cause cancer) over the 4000 found in a cancer stick anytime!
