We just found out that my wife is pregnant. And is there anything I need to be careful of. I vape but.she does not. Like do I need to wash my hands after I vape, do I need to brush my teeth before I kiss her, I am not sure. If any one has been in this position please let me know what would be the most benificial for her. Cuz this will be our first kid and I want it to be as safe as possible.
Thank you,
Chuck

i have 4 kids and understand how you feel, so first off you should just wash your hands more often because its the smart thing to do and you dont want your wife to get sick, next i wouldnt vape around her "just because" it wont hurt her or the baby but it will still make you feel a little better about it, about the brushing your teeth, she might just appreciate it but once again i doubt there would be any harm if you didnt. congrats on the new lil one about to rule your world wish you and your family the best, have a great day!-)

Nicotine is a drug, nicotine has a physiological effect on the human body. It may not hurt the baby but why risk it. First step in being a responsible parent, learning why risk it.

very true, i wouldnt suggest a pregnat women to use ecigs or analogs or anything along those lines. the father could do so if he chose but thats why i suggested not to do it around the women , just to be safe.

Also are there any negative effects of a pregnant woman using an e-cig?

Welcome to ECF and congrats. Personally, I don't think any kind of nicotine delivery to a developing fetus is beneficial in any way. Even if there's no nic in the juice, you're still introducing a foreign substance to the unborn child. Though there haven't been enough studies to show any negative side effects of vaping 0 nic juice, just short of conducting a social experiment for scientific research, I could only advise a pregnant woman not to do ANYTHING (vaping or otherwise) outside of a healthy developmental process.

The only thing that would (IMO) hurt wife/baby is the nicotine so don't vape close enough they she can breath the vapor---doubt it would hurt but just on the safe side.

As far as kissing her, if you get liquid on your lips or in your mouth, I wouldn't until you have rinsed with water. Same thing goes for your hands.

As stated this is just my opinion, I'd ask her doctor who has probably never been faced with the problem so take some info with you.

WARNING: THIS ANSWER MAY RUFFLE SOME FEATHERS

I'm not a doctor, but common sense tells me that the amount of nicotine that might be on your lips or hands is meaningless.
So that part I wouldn't worry about any more than I worry about getting a bit on my own hands or lips.

As far as what is exhaled, it depends on how much nicotine there is in exhaled vapor.
The fact is, we really don't know, but all studies point to there not being enough to be harmful.

Let's put it this way, if it were me, until we have more information I would not chain vape around my pregnant wife.
But I wouldn't go running outside every time I want to vape either.

And I wouldn't even give a second thought to having a puff or two here and there with her around either.
But that's me, and I wouldn't even make my poor kid wear a stupid bicycle helmet either.

I'm thinking if you really want to be as safe as humanly possible, don't let her drive anymore.
And that includes before the baby is born, and after as well.
:)

But in my opinion, anyone telling you not to vape around your pregnant wife should also be supporting vaping bans indoors.
And I doubt many of the people that have responded here would support such a ban.

I'd have to agree with DC2 on this one. The amount of nicotine that is being absorbed by the e-cig user is pretty small, and the 'mist' in the exhalation is much smaller, to the point of being virtually non-detectible.

Here's some figures from a study done in New Zealand:

Ecigarette mist harmless, inhaled or exhaled

I don't think there's any problem with having a puff now and then with her in the same room at all.

Probably not wise to agree with me.

I used to ride motocross when I was a kid, and jump off rooftops and bridges.
And even to this day I will gladly eat any piece of food that has fallen on the ground, no time limit.

Hell, I'll even take a drink right out of your glass if you offer it to me.
