Welcome npmillertime.
Depending on just how much you smoke per-day, I would suggest a Joye 510 kit if you are an average smoker, or a Janty ego kit if you consider yourself a heavy smoker. Check out VaporScoop.com. They have lots of great videos for the ecig beginner. They also have a checklist of suggested things to buy on your fist purchase. YouTube is also a terrific source for model and e-liquid reviews. Good luck with quitting. I smoked for 22 years, ordered a 510 kit from Dietsmokes.com, and quitting was never easier for me!

I am a heavy smoker, pack and a half a day, and am looking to start the ecig. I am looking for suggestions on what brand etc. Please help me, I am killing my lungs! I did some searching but what I found seemed dated. Thanks guys....and gals.

Well that is a question I wish I would have asked before I started trying ecigs, I started out with cloud 9 ended up being crap. Then I found a DSE 601 pipe now that was getting me satisfied but was messy and the atomizer could not be changed (they were built in) so the new atomizers were $35 so after a few of those I said no more of that. I researched and found the mega batteries and mega carts, Totally wicked has them called Wicked Tornado Mega's, (although a bit pricey) the carts hold 2.5ml of juice. and that's nice. there is the Joye Ego Mega too. they use the same atty as the tornado The cheapest I found them is at mike & carols. Don't go for the kits that only waists money. Just buy one of each to see if you like it. ( I am sure you will though) I did a shopping cart and added up to $45 then shipping. but that's better than blowing money on crap.

Here is some of the links to what I am talking about.
Batteries JOYE EGO MEGA MANUAL BATTERY - BLACK

Atomizers JOYE EGO MEGA ATOMIZER BLACK

Carts JOYE EGO MEGA BLANK CARTRIDGES BLACK 10 PACK

Charger JOYE EGO FAST USB CHARGER

I like to help people out so they do not waste they time and money on stuff that just does not satisfy.

Hope this all helps.

My name is Crimmy on the forums and Kevin in life.
And if you want to know I was a 4 pack a day smoker. and have completely quit analog cigarettes. almost 9 months now. ever since I got the good vapor production I needed.

Good luck

I love my Joye 510 with all the bells and whistles. My only problem is that it's flat black and I keep losing it. I try to wear something with pockets, but not everything I have has pockets.:D I really do like the look and feel. I use a manual battery, but have an auto as backup.

I smoked a little over 2 pad, but I smoked ultra lights. The 26 mg's was too much for me and I dropped down to 18 mg's. You'll be able to figure out what you need fairly quickly after you get your kit. I got mine from cignot.com, but there are all kinds of dealers on this board.

BTW, welcome to the board!!!

I think over a half a pack a day would rule out the smaller devices like the 510 due to battery life issues. You really should consider the ego/riva or a value priced 3.7v mod. I smoked about the same as you and started with the 510, and now I'm using an eGo. Once I found my source of e-juice and mastered modding and filling my carts I feel very content. I will definitely be picking up a nice 3.7v so I can use LR atty's and hit that 8-10watt sweet spot but I don't feel like I *need* to.

You will need to make sure to order enough supplies to last you so you don't fall in love with vaping and end up running out before your second order arrives.

I would suggest a eGo or Riva kit that should include 2x batteries, 2x cones, 2x 510 atomizers, 1x Wall/Usb charger.

I would also suggest buying the following.

10x Blank Cartridges
1x Extra Battery (cignot offers one at discount with their starter kit)
2x Extra Atomizers
1 pack of filter media (Blue Foam, Fluval, or Pyramid Tea bags)
A nice selection of smaller bottles of e-juice in varying strengths. I'd get some 6mg, 18mg, and 36mg juice. Get the 6mg and 36mg in the same flavor so you can mix them to reach a good level of nicotine for you. A total of 30ml should give you plenty of time to try them all out and order more before you run out.

I prefer FreedomSmokeUSA for my juice needs but there are plenty of good sites. I would also recommend getting one sweet flavor that has good reviews, and don't expect tobacco flavored products to be dead on a traditional cigarette. I buy my Joye 510/eGo supplies from Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store. but again there are plenty of options. Both of those companies offer great genuine products and unmatched customer service.

This is the method I use for cartridge refilling. Blue Foam mod Video I find this to work the best for me and really made my experience much easier and enjoyable.

I hope this helps you out, I think it's the safest route to take and should keep your cost around $100.

I started with the Joye Ego kit a week ago. The battery keeps me going for several hours. I LOVE it!!! Glad I decided to go with it. I smoked 2+ packs a day of ultra lights.

I found the 24 mg e-liquid too strong for me, but the 18 mg is fine. So buy at least two different strengths to help you find what works for you. Hope you find some flavors that you like.

Good luck to you. I haven't even looked back at cigs since before I started w/my Ego. Welcome ECF!!!

I am a student. No desk. Need to exercise. Recently took break from working to finish school. Id like it to look like a cig, but if something like the 510 will do the trick, so be it.
Just to be clear, when speaking of a 510 e-cig, that is different from an eGo/RiVa type device; it does get confusing because the eGoRivas use 510 connections and parts (cartomizers, atomizers, carts, and drip tips).

If you're a student on the go, I would recommend either the RiVa or the one of the XL eGos simply because of their extended battery life. They're about as long as a 100 cigarette and as big around as a AA battery. Sometimes you can find them in white, which would help with a cigarette illusion if that's what you want. Most of the starter kits come with two batteries, two atomizers, a cone, and the necessary charger.

I personally started with cartomizers to keep flavors from blending, and still keep most of my "flavored" juices in separate cartos, with one dedicated attie for my all-day flavor. If possible, I think it's safe to have at least four atomizers at any given time, although if you want to give the e-cig thing a try before you invest in more, the two atomizers provided in the kit should keep you going for at least a few weeks.

Sample packs are the way to with juices until you find one you like. I think I probably spent as much on juices as I did on equipment until I found one I could use regularly. Now that I've found my daily vape and a couple "fun" vapes, juice spending has greatly tapered off.

Good luck!! It does get easier, and it's a heckuva lot more fun shopping for this habit than it was my cigarettes. Virginia Slims didn't come in nearly this many delicious varieties.

PM me what you smoke, how much (Ill forget), and your lifestyle (School teacher, truckdriver etc)...Thats all I need to know what you will like as a starter kit. Mods are for overacheivers, and come later after you know the basics.

I was a 1.5 pack a day ultra light smoker and I've tried several ecigs. I first tried the E-lite Cigarette, which worked great once I modded them for better vapor production, but the battery life was too short. Then I got a Green Smoke, which just did nothing for me. No idea why, but it just didn't satisfy. Then I bit the bullet and bought a Joye 510 because of all the good reviews. Great vapor production, decent taste, good battery life (for me) and it hits the spot. I use the light and medium carts (personally I don't like the idea of refilling but refilling does give a better range of flavours).

I'd recommend a Joye 510 starter pack (couple of batteries, couple of attys, and a selection of carts) and a pack of light carts, a pack of medium carts. That's all I bought and I am slowly falling in love with vaping again!

I have to disagree; I'd suggest getting a nice 3.7v mod (Chuck, Silver Bullet, or at least an eGo).

It's not really all that hard-- screw in the atty, pop on the cartridge, and push the button. =) For a heavy smoker, big batteries are the way to go. Had someone told me, I wouldn't have a bunch of 510 and eGo batteries lying around.

I think a newbie trying to buy a mod would be fraught with frustration. In addition, it gets a little pricey. For example, I looked at the SB. It would run $101 just for a battery, the SB itself, and an atomizer. Toss in a charger, and carts/cartomizers, etc., and the price tag goes up. Consumers being what they are, at that point a lot are going to hesitate to spend that much on something that may or may not help them successfully quit smoking (how much have they already wasted on patches, gum, medication, etc, without success). While WE know it's successful, nobody else is going to believe it's anything more than another gimmick until they've tried it. Or, worse yet, they may decide that if they're going to spend that much money, they might as well get the one at the mall kiosk since they can at least touch that.

You have to walk before you can run, and the eGo/RiVa family allows them to get a good fast walk going before they decide whether they want to break into a trot or not.

Yay for you. For a case....I use a hard glasses case. It snaps shut tightly and it holds a fully assembled 510 or two plus some juice, some extra carts/attys....etc. And since it's hard, there's no chance of it getting smashed or anything. Just a suggestion. They make/sell an eGo case for about $12.00 that would hold all your stuff. It's about the same size as my glasses case but it zips closed instead of just snapping shut with a spring mechanism. Good luck. Once you really get going on this....you should be able to NOT smoke the 10 cigs.....just saying. Good luck! And welcome to vaping!
