With a calender that covers thousands of years, I don't think we should be celebrating too much yet.
The translators could have been off a month or two. A month would look like a blip on the mayan calender.
Not that I put any stock at all in an "advanced" civilization that believed human sacrifice was a good way to appease their gods.

It is widely believed South Africa has nuclear war heads and North Korea may have them but detonating them is another issue.
